What would be a nice companion to my Juno 60?
Moog Prodigy?
I have one synth. A Juno 60.
What would you buy next? Presently I'm mixing an iPad 808 into my creations. I eventually want to buy all vintage.
Current budget $1000

Something FM'ish, for the tonal colors. A soft Juno60 pad should match up fine with a typical EPiano from a DX7. Another typical analog synth wouldn't bring that much new in terms of fundamental sound.

Juno 106 would be the perfect pair alongside the 60, although you can never go wrong with a DX7, DW8000, or a JX-8p; all great synths that would all go well with the Juno 60.

But a 106 will get the SAME thing no? I want a more broad spectrum of sounds, although I like the configure ability of the 106. What will a FM chip machine do more? Sorry guys, but I am new at making sounds for the most part. I usually would just use presets. lol

Yes Juno 106 is the same. Weird suggestion IMO. DX-7 would be a classic addition, as CSTBL already said. And it has glide- there are some nice monosynth type sounds you can do on it.

I would say, the 106 is the most perfect pair for the JU60 you can ever imagine.

They do sound a bit different for reasons that have been amply discussed in other areas of this forum but, ultimately, they are pretty much the same instrument.philip wrote:I would say, the 106 is the most perfect pair for the JU60 you can ever imagine.
FM makes a nice addition to analogue synths because the synthesis used is VERY different from analogue. It excels at what analogue cannot do and vice-versa. It also produces stunning results when layered with analogue or with itself.
Many people are put off FM synths, as the earlier ones in particular were monotimbral and without effects so they sound unimpressive in isolation. When you hear them layered in a mix, they really are stunning. I recently bought a TX802 and it is still an amazing instrument 30 years after its release.

Yes FM layered with analogue is the sound of a lot of classic records.

Great in depth info on the difference here:

Just to clarify what "a bit" is, it's because of a slight difference in the way the filter is set up. It's nothing that cannot easily be replicated with a little eq. I guess some people don't programme even their Junosgcoudert wrote:philip wrote:They do sound a bit different

Re: What would be a nice companion to my Juno 60?
i agree that an fm synth like a dx7 would compliment the analog juno 60 quite well. if you're interested, we have a gorgeous refurbished dx7iifd in stock right now. otherwise, if you're an analog purist, you would probably want something with oscillator sync and ring modulation (for example, an arp odyssey).

1)They are not the same))
2)DX7 is not working with the 106/60
Re: What would be a nice companion to my Juno 60?
They do sound absolutely different, actually they have different sound character. BTW, in the reality, the DX7 never works with the Juno series.madtheory wrote:Yes FM layered with analogue is the sound of a lot of classic records.Just to clarify what "a bit" is, it's because of a slight difference in the way the filter is set up.
