So in love with the TX802!

I have only had it a couple of weeks and I totally love that box. I have had a DX7S, TX7 and DX7 Mk 1 before but this thing is in another league.
For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is more than just a rackmountable version of the bitimbral DX7 IID. You're basically in Performance mode all the time and the machine is made up of eight, two-note polyphonic virtual modules that you can connect / disconnect at your leisure to increase polyphony or multitimbrality. The only limitations are that you cannot exceed 8 parts, 16-note polyphony and the latter is only available in multiples of 2. So you can have a single 16-note patch or eight 2-note patches (to be used multitimbrally and/or layered) or you can have almost any combination in between.
I have mostly been using it with two, eight-note patches that can share outputs I and II or have their own. There is even a detune function in Performance Edit (it's rather coarse though) so you don't need to save two detuned versions of the same patch. This was clearly very clearefully thought through back in the mid-80s.
All in all, it's very much like a programmable TX816 in which every TF1 module is limited to two-note polyphony.
I have yet to play around with the eight individual outputs and I am a little annoyed at the absence of an overall volume button and contrast knob but what a machine! A couple of buttons double-trigger but hey, that thing is 30 years old!

Any other TX802 (or 816) lovers around?

Buy it! I paid a lot more for mine but then it came from Italy and with a RAM card.

I got mine a few years ago.
I got it to replace my DX7 FD but it can't, I used Unison Detune a lot on the DX.
Hopefully there's a way to mimic this...
Anyway, my TX came with its memory full of sounds from a band I use to like in the 90s.
I contacted that songwriter and he was desperately after those lost sounds.
Anyway I've hardly used it since and I want to, and I wanted one since they came out.
Maybe one day I'll make it sing like it should.

Yes, you set each of the 8 generators to the same patch and MIDI channel and detune each one as you please. You still have 2-note polyphony. You can set the patch to mono for monophonic playback but you still have a stack of 8 voices, not 16. Maybe it's a limitation but why anybody might want to stack 16 voices is beyond me!

Sounds good (and logical), thanks man.
