ATTN: SYNTH AFICIONADOS; Roland EP 6060? WHA???

Postby Thecomacalling » Sun Jul 16, 2017 7:11 am

I just picked up a Roland EP6060 "Dual Voice Combo Piano" the other day for $150. I was interested in if anyone had any info on these as to what they are, is it a keyboard? A synth? An organ? there's next to no information online besides two manuals and the seller had no information and had only had it for two years.

According to the Service Manual it seems to have:

Two oscillators with three options on wave form,
Both are de-tunable,
A mixer for both sound sources,
16-pattern arpeggiator with a hold or "latch"
Bypass-able 6 band eq for either sounds,
Two independent octave switches,
A decay knob for each sound,
Din Sync,
A Sustain pedal, etc.

I've asked some of my synth enthusiast friends what this would be considered and after they looked into the manuals thought it was a two oscillator synth with dco. One guy said it was an organ.
What are you guy's take on what this thing is?
Ill post the links to the manuals, the 1 and only crappy unworthy demo video online, and a current reverb listing.
Thanks in advance to your thoughts and comments.

Cheers!

well that's an interesting item. looks like a 2-osc synth that's meant to be used for EP sounds....

I opened it up with my father whom works on vintage oscilloscopes to find the cleanest vintage keyboard interior I've ever seen. Looks like the inside of a time capsule. It's a beautiful design inside but I left it at his house since we were getting a quiet but constant high frequency noise that we assumed was a problem with one or more of the capacitors on the power board but didn't get time to really dig.
It's got a bubbly low end and a high end that varies from crispy to smooth to NESish. I'll keep this post going as I find out more info. But yeah, it's totally weird.
The only reviews I've found online are either vague or judgemental over it's limitations or "preset" piano sounds. I produce experimental electronic/rock/pop music that's kind of messed up and strange sounding so I think it'll work wonders for me as I'm a big fan of stuff like Radiohead, Portishead and other stuff that promotes uglier or more unexpected sounds. It's far from being a Juno, but with that said it's at a fraction of the cost and seems to have some bold features. But maybe I'm wrong, have crappy synth taste and it's just a crappy organ. LMAO.
I'll try to post detailed walk through videos as time goes by.

here, I made a video of it's arp functions. The video is dry w/ unedited audio.
I should have shown how it sounds through effects, because honestly that's how it shines. But oh well, maybe if people show interest in the future.
