Waldorf MicroQ - PSU hum - SOLUTION

Post by encoderaudio » Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:13 pm

Hi Guys,

First post, let me do an "informative" one.

Recently, I picked up a MicroQ, a yellow version. It was fairly cheap, so I've pulled the trigger.
Right after it has arrived, I powered it up and noticed a really annoying HUM.
I was pretty sure it was caused by the PSU, because the original one had only the LN lines, no PE (earth), so, I was sure it is a grounding issue.

I was right!

I bough a new PSU, with matching specs., from MeanWell, with a 3 line connector.

HUM, with the original PSU :

And no HUM with the new one :

The PSU is a MeanWell GS 18 A 12, a 12V, centre positive, DC, 1.2A desktop style PSU :

Now, no hum, I'm happy!
