Re: Favorite synth sounds
This is very creative - I wonder how he uses it. Maybe he makes some plug in of it ?

Re: Favorite synth sounds
I read somewhere that the 303 sounds were created 'by mistake', whatever that means. Most amazing creations are created 'by mistake'.

Re: Favorite synth sounds
the 303's square wave is not a true square wave, it is a sawtooth wave flipped upside down every other cycle, hence it's unique hollow sound.kurtz wrote:I read somewhere that the 303 sounds were created 'by mistake', whatever that means. Most amazing creations are created 'by mistake'.

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Any one of the sounds on Eno's "On Land", but specially the lfo pad and the modulated phrases on "Unfamiliar Winds..." Only synths could do those and create that composition... If I'm not mistaken everything there is coming from a Prophet-5 and some Lexicon reverbs...

Re: Favorite synth sounds
For me it would have to be the Polymoog's Vox Humana, growing up on that sound that Gary Numan used to such good effect.
Great clip her of someone reproducing the "Replicas" sound that Numan used to open his concerts with.

btw, for those that have an Alesis Fusion or Akai S5000/6000 there is a free download on http://www.hollowsun.com/shop/Freepacks/index.htm for a Vox Humana patch

I always loved the squealchy ring moddish sound from Crystal methods "Keep hope alive" and the square wave sound of the 303...
Also... I'll admit it, super saw..
Total sucker for it....
If my love for the access virus and jp-80x0 doesnt lay that out clear enough
Take a /|/|/|/|/|/|/ and layer another /|/|/|/|/|/ and super it. :3
Pardon my terrible ascii saw wave.... :3

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Been brainwashed with that audio logo since my youngest age:
Otherwise, I had a lifetime fascination with the Oxygene intro; in someways, it reminds me Beethoven's ninth intro.

Re: Favorite synth sounds
I'm a big fan of the slightly warbly "oboe" lead in Talk Talk's "Happiness is Easy".
Also, the intro to Robert Palmer's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" is a sound that always catches my ear.
Course, if anyone can point me towards pulling either of those out of my CZ-5000, I'd appreciate it!

Re: Favorite synth sounds
The lead sound Peter Baumann used a lot in the mid 70's as on Stratosfear with TD and on Romance 76 alone. Kind of a basic and in your face patch.

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Too many to mention them all, but here are a few of my favorites:
The OB strings on "Subdivisions" by Rush
"Shine on You Crazy Diamond" Pretty much all the sounds Rick was using on that one were just breathtaking.
"All My Love" by Zep, especially the solo.
The choir sound during the breakdown of "Du Hast"
The "Enjoy The Silence" choir
