I gotta say I love my analogue synths as much as the next guy, but I'd rather have a Nord than a limited, monophonic, preset synth with one VCO.

VAs have their place - great for plastic or bright sounds in most cases. I'd rather have a Nord because it's a Nord...not because it's a VA.

umm ... Nord's don't make good monosynths.. for what I like to do.

I seriously hunkered down and did overdubs on my album earlier this year... I had my friends Nord Lead 1 sitting there. Thought what the h**l, I could get something out this thing. Nothing would fit. Used the Jen SX1000 instead ... and the MG-1 .. and the CS01.... even a Arp Quartet... TX-7 ... .. no nord.

Not saying it's bad. But for me personally .. it's worthless.

I find it funny that it angers people. As if I just pissed all over something sacred.

evil thinks good is evil. which is which?

pss-if I found a Nord 1 rack for really cheap.. I'd grab it.. just for sake of mult-timbral layering/re-inforcement.. but anything memorable... no way. maybe just acid techno wank,... but that's a different band.

I've actually never played the original Nord Lead but I have played a 2X in Sound Control on two or so occassions and I liked the sound. Easy to use, great tone and a blast to play. That said...

Do I think it's worth the asking price new? Nope.

Is it the be-all-end-all synth? Nope.

Do I need one? Nope.

Would I rather have one over a Micropreset? h**l yes!

And if I did have one I'd probably use it as a poly mostly.

I wasn't annoyed or even twigged by what you or JS said, I just would rather have a Nord Lead over a Micropreset. Especially when I have a Moog LP, Octave Cat and Polivoks already.

don't worry Jambo.. you're not one of the socio/politcal types. So that comment wasn't meant for you. You seem more content than that... hope you don't find that an insult.

I really think the DX27 sucks. It just sounds thin and it's very anooying to program. If you don't want to program, there are only a couple of good presets (<6> Tease and Brass 3). I really hate it. There are only two reasons I keep it around. I don't want to spend money on a midi controller for my computer and sampler and it's worth just about nothing if I were to sell it. In contrast, I love my Poly-800. Yes, most of the presets suck, but if you know how to program it, you can get some great results. I love the noisy chours on it and how you can strap it on like a guitar. I ran the Poly in stereo for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it sounds amazing.
Currently have: Baby Grand Piano, B3, CP-30, DX7, Casiotone MT-210, Axxe 1, EPS-1, Promars, MC-202, TR-606
Used to have: POLY-800, TR-505, Techstar TS-306, DX7, ESI-32, Juno-106, DX27, Synthcart, JX-3P, ESQ-M, Mono/Poly, MS2000BR, VX90

I just got mine in, been using it for 5 minutes, and this thing is AWESOME. Sounds much better than I was expecting and the controls are fun as h**l.

They say that Poly 800 is shitty... But with few mods it really kicks a*s :)

I don't like minimized editions of DX7 [dx100 etc] - i hated em! :D

Uh......No need to get defensive there pal...

I never insinuated that you had poor programming ability. I simply stated that I believe people who fail to get a warm sound out of a JP-6 may not know how to program it well and cited an example of an excellent job that a forum member made demonstrating this point.

Ah! I was wondering why you were referring to me as a "god" - I didn't read the other poster's name!

Man that was stupid of me...
