Re: What is your live set up?
Live setup:
Fender Rhodes - I use a Mk. II 54 key Rhodes, which has a lovely action and has been modified to be very barky and growly. It likes to pretend it's a Wurli. I used to use a 73 suitcase, but that just got to be too heavy. Sometimes I put it through a Maestro PS-1 phase shifter, and sometimes I put it through a Space Echo.
Clavinet D6 (on top of the Rhodes), run through a Mu-tron III or a Maxon AF9 for those days when I just want it to work.
Alesis Andromeda A6 - to the side of the Rhodes.
Prior to getting the Andromeda, I'd lug either the Pro Soloist or the SH around to use as a monosynth. I want to add a nice little monosynth to the rig - a Moog Prodigy would be ideal, as would a Voyager OS for that matter - and a chopped Hammond with a nice Leslie. I'm tempted to try swapping the Andromeda out for a Poly Evolver, but I don't think I'd ever want to sell the Andy.

Re: What is your live set up?
For a live acid-house rig, I was thinking about the following setup:
* Roland Fantom G
* 2x FR Revolution OR 2x x0xb0x OR 1 of each (variety is the spice of life?)
* Effects for 303's (Boss VF-1 and Electro-Harmonix big muff)
* Korg Kaoss Pad 3
* Small behringer eurorack mixer (Might be able to avoid this by running the 303's into the G and mixing internally)
* Yamaha YME-8 MIDI thru box (Distribute MIDI clock from G to 303's, VF-1, Kaoss Pad, and DMX lighting console)
I think anything more elaborate than that is probably over-complicating things. I suddenly wish there was a desktop version of the Fantom G without a keyboard... the G is big. I don't want to bring my TB-303 out on the road for obvious reasons and I think the Revo or the x0xb0x is more than adequate for live performance.
The x0xb0x can't receive pattern changes via MIDI program change which is a crock. However, I think there is a firmware patch for this. The revo's really seem better suited for live PA since they have shuffle, a potentially useful remix function, and can receive pattern changes via MIDI program change. This allows me to control the performance from the G without having to worry about keeping the 303's in sync.
I also figure an APC power backup UPS and Furman Power Conditioner (the real ones with voltage regulation) are in order as well.
Any glaring omissions besides talent?

Personally I've found that mixing internally (or 'chaining') your synths is never as good an idea has even a cheap mixer quality-wise.StepLogik wrote:

Re: What is your live set up?
yeah you are probably right - the desire to bring less gear can sometimes get you in trouble. the little behringer i have has enough inputs to mix the 2 303's and the 2 stereo outs from the G.th0mas wrote:Personally I've found that mixing internally (or 'chaining') your synths is never as good an idea has even a cheap mixer quality-wise.StepLogik wrote:

Re: What is your live set up?
couple of differnet ways of doing things.
firstly i'm a cajon player, so that comes everywhere i gig...
secondly my live rig was a machinedrum and a nord lead 2x.
both have now gone and i haven't played keys live for a while. if i did, i'd have to use my laptop, and my virus polar.

Essential, especially if you have a bunch of vintage gear.justin_havu wrote: Monster pro 900 power conditioner
Some of the power i've seen at live gigs has been deplorable. I always keep one of those radio shack outlet testers to check the power outlet before I plug in. Amazing how many home-grown quad-boxes are wired backwards...

New live setup with new band:
Sequential Circuits Pro-One
Wurlitzer MLM (black) through a cheap vibrato pedal
Gotta work on the MLM's grounding--too noisy!

Re: What is your live set up?
What is your guys' typical load-in / setup time?
Some of you with very large rigs must need a lot of time to get everything wired up.. ?
