What Songs Was The Juno 60 Used On.

Post by mrkj » Mon Mar 05, 2007 1:17 am

The Juno 60 has been used on a number of songs. The Eurythmics used it on most of their early material including Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) and Here Comes The Rain Again. Enya has most definetely used it on her first 3 albums, most recognisable on Orinoco Flow, Storms In Africa, Carribean Blue and The Celts. Enya gives presets 35 and 28 a good workout, in particular 35 with the arpeggiator running. I have also seen INXS use the Juno 60 on their Swing album, recognisable on tracks like Burn For You and Original Sin. I have Definately seen them use it live. :P
  • I own a Roland Juno 60, Casio CZ1, Yamaha DX7, Sequential Circuits Split Eight, Korg M3R, Roland D110, Korg Electribe EM1.

Okay,I was listening to Head on the Door tonight and it sounds like it's all over there. Either that or some other kind of Roland, the sounds are very bell-like.

I know in the concert video supporting his Human's Lib album, Howard Jones used it for pads and organ sounds for most songs. Even if you're not a HoJo fan, if you ever have a chance to check out that concert video, it's awseome! It's HoJo by himself playing JP-8, JU-60, DX-7, CP-70 or 80, a ProOne and then doing some "keytar" with a Moog Prodigy.

Here's "New Song" from that concert video. His vocals are a little off, but it was the last song of his set. And "Hunt the Self".

The Juno-60 is all over Mark Shreeve's album "Assassin" (1983), Madonna's "Like A Virgin" (1984) and Colonel Abrams' dance hit "Trapped" (1985).

Wham! used Juno 60's on some of their recordings. I think the organ sound on "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" is Juno 60.

All the polyphonic stuff as well as some arpeggiated parts on Shreeve's "Assassin" were done on the Juno-60.
Mark's old Hohner stringer was broken at the time so the Juno was the only
poly-synth used on that album.
Incidentally, on the track "Static" from the Redshift album "Ether" the very first sound that comes in is a Juno 60 arpeggiated weird sound fed through a tape delay.

Colonel Abrams - Trapped
I was told by producer Richard James Burgess (of Landscape) that the bassline and some of the pads
on "Trapped" were played on a Juno-60.

According to an old Keyboard article/interview Mark Kelly used a Juno-60 MIDIed to a DX-7 on Marillion's '85 album "Misplaced Childhood", eg on "Kayleigh".

Although, I can't get into the band. They've been bringing the Juno60 to the indie crowds

Clap your hands and say Yeah

Shot in the dark here, but the synth strings on Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" sound alot like a Juno 60 or 6.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

He sure did. On his "Live Aid" performance (1985) his 2. guitarist used a Roland Juno 60. As I remeber his keyboard player used a jupiter 6, Yamaha Dx-7 and an Emulator 1 sampler.(and probably 1 more synthesizer).

You can definitely hear it on the arpeggiated intro to the Cure's "Baby Screams" on Head on the Door.

Didn't/doesn't Alien Sex Fiend use it? I swear I hear it (the heavily resonant filter sweep) on "Hurricane Fighter Plane" - near the beginning.

They did indeed use a Juno-60 (Roland SH-09 and Prophet 5) during the '83 tour and on the '84 album "Touch", but afaik the bass-riff on the album version of Sweet Dreams was recorded with a Roland SH-09/CSQ-100/Space echo combo.
Sweet Dreams was recorded in late '82 but I don't think they had a Juno-60 until after the album had been completed.
