I remember when i bought my microkorg 2 years ago. I always go into this one store and they always had the microkorg there, but it wasn't plugged in. I remember thinking "man, that looks sweet". I walk in one day and it's all powered up and I said "oh i gotta give this a try". I hit one note and i was blown away. I never had any experience with synthesis. I sat there for over an hour even after closing time, to play the synth. I went back as often as i could to play it until i finally bought it. Still have it, play it, but now i'm obsessed with synths in general.

1987 or 1988...Casio CZ-5000.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I bought my Moog Rogue in '83, followed by a Juno-6 in '84.
Synths and gear I own: Juno-6, Moog Rouge, Yamaha FB-01, Boss DR-110 & TR-505, Casio SK-1, Yamaha AN200, Roland D2, Korg ER-1, various mini-kybds and home-made circuit bent thingies.

I think it was 1987 and my father gave me a Korg 707. Then he bought me an older korg sequencer, i don't remember the model sqd-10 or something like that.

In electronic music, sequencers are as important as synths, they all modify your composition and playing

M first synth was the QS6. It was baught for me as a gift in February of '97, near the end of its production run.

Looking back, I wish I'd chosen the Korg X5D, or one of the Roland synths of that time. In looking for a digital synth of a certain caliber, the QS6 did pay more attention to the quantity of sounds, versus the quality.
The greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive.

Rest in peace, Dr. Robert Moog.

Casio VL-Tone, unexpected Christmas gift from my dad when I was about 10 (nearly 25 years ago!) which kinda turned into an (expensive) obsession! ;)
VL-Tone -> Yamaha MK100 -> Moog Prodigy -> Casio CZ-101 and on from there...

Alex E wrote:Pretty sure it was December '04. It was a CS1x at a Daddy's junky music. It's a great synth.

My first synth was a used, crappy looking, smoke-damaged CS1x that was missing 2 knobs. I got it 10 years ago for my 13th birthday. I bought it at a discount second hand market, when they had a huge sale on music equipment that had fire damage. I got it for 650$, used ALL my savings..everything in the piggy bank, plus the money my parents gave me for my b-day. I can still see the smoke coloration under the keys.

Still use it as a MIDI controller for all my racks (its my only keyboard) to this day...and its missing yet another knob lol...but it keeps on going and I'll use it till it quits!

Went to buy an SH-101.

Came home with a Pro-One.

Gordon Simpsons in Edinburgh.

The shop is no more. :(

The Pro-One still sits in my studio, watching other gear come and go. 8)

An Ensoniq ESQ-1 that I bought off of eBay early February 2006. An Alesis ION soon followed.

The ION is gone now, but the ESQ-1 remains simply because I just preferred the sound of it much more.
