When I was a kid my uncle bought me a Casio VL-1. I recently went looking for that old thing at my mother's house but came up empty handed. It must have gone to goodwill a decade ago. Which was really sad.

The first synth I bought on my own was in about 1998 when I bought an Alesis QS8.1 on the urging of a former co-worker. I thought that guy knew his s**t. Turns out his music was mostly c**p and I was misled :(

I still have the QS8.1 which is now slowly dying. My synth rebirth happened when I picked up an old Elka rhapsody 610 at a junk sale two years ago. I'd been playing VSTis for a long time via the QS8.1. When I finally heard a real analog first hand I was sold. VSTs are BS.

I now own four synths in the last year and two electric pianos. I might pickup my 5th analog on Friday, a Oberheim Matrix 6r. omg.

Hi there!
My first one was my Korg MS20, I bought brand new at the music store in 1979!
I was 15... 8)
Same year I bought a Montarbo TRIO combo amp.
Next year, I bought a Yamaha CS15, at the store too. + a GX-20 Ibanez amp, and a "used" SQ10 sequencer.
Two years later, a Korg MP4, and a BOSS DR-55 rhythm machine.

I got all the others for 4 years.
Korg MS20-MS50-SQ10-X911-SuperDelta-800DV-MP4-Lambda ES50-severely modded Poly800-PE1000-M500SP-Trident MkII-KPR77-DSS1-P61//EkoSynth P15//YAMAHA CS30-CP30-DX9-01V//RSF Blackbox x2//Viscount CL1-R64//SCI Multitrack-P600//Roland GR500-SH1000

1993 - Korg O1/W FD - my first real synth

Then in '94, I added a Roland D-50 and Korg Polysix. That was my setup for 11+ years until a fire.

Now I have new synths, well 2 new ones and one vintage TX802. :)
Two VCO: thanks to the push rods, one can choose several forms of waves at the same time!

WOW! Talk about old thread that's been picked up! :) OK, my first synth was a Korg Mono/Poly that I got just over a year ago. Since then I have bought a few more cool synths, like my all time favourite the ARP Oddysey (cuz Florian and Billy played them) and a Roland D-50. I have just realised I might be addicted to this, because I spend several hours every day looking for more synths for sale on the web. This might be serious folks, I'd rather be broke than not having a new synth every month!

shite December 2006 when i finally decided i want to produce music instead of playing guitar (guitar since 1997). So i sold my xbox360 and slowly started to get my studio together. Bought a micro x then a moog LP. Did try the vintage route (p600) but it was totally unreliable (at least the one i had was). So ditched the vintage route and decided to go new with a p08.

1983 - when I decided to get into synths I went a bit wild...
with a month or so I had picked up:

Arp 2600 ($750)

MS-20 ($250)
*this seller also had the MS10 & SQ-10, since the sequencer "didn't make any sound" I didn't get it!, I also passed on the MS-10, 'cause it looked like a lesser version of the 20... I was a complete newb!

Mellotron $600

Prophet 600 - ($1000)

other gear follies:
I traded the 2600 for a Prophet 5 later, and then traded the P5 for a commodore 128 with midi interface & s/w! (this was still in the 80's)

A long time ago. A Minimoog when they were new, as was I. Now we're both vintage, only the Mini's worth more.
As always, kindly allow for the possibility I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I've edited the poll options a little.

My first synth was in 1998 - the Welsh Minimoog reissue. I followed it up a couple of months later with a Yamaha SY55 for polyphony.
I didn't get where I am today by posting on internet forums.

I think it did briefly but I was told but some of the components were put in the wrong places. The dude who made them also kept hold of the Moog name in this country up until recently hence why Turnkey had to peel the Moog badge off the first run of Voyagers.
