The bender board is still in the shop w/ Maschinengeist but progress is being made!

I've put some of the instrument back together:

still haven't found knob/slider caps yet. once i get the bender board back ill put it back together.

it plays now just fine. sounds great!

FYi, getting the panel boards A & B mounted back onto the front panel was a nightmare... getting all the LED's to go back into the plastic sockets and the switches/knobs to line up was pure evil.

man that looks beautiful!!!!!! and one h**l of a resto job! good work getting that thing back together, if i ever get some (spare) money my mono/poly is going to customsynth for sure!!!!! :D
how'd you go removing the rust? did you get it all out? or are there still pits etc? i'd like to know, cos my mono/poly has some big rust pits on the outer case, and a little bit of rust on the inside
congrats on the awesome resto job!
Have a good one,
Alex

did you change the LEDs? when i replaced some of the pots on my J6, putting the control panel back into the casing wasn't even vaguely tricky, maybe its a manufacturing difference. works soooo nice now that the pots work perfectly! the bad news: the chipforbrains repro knobs (the plastic knobs, not the pots) are slightly too small for both the original and replacement pots.

want to sell me one of your original knobs from your J6???

Looks excellent! Did you paint the panel yourself? It looks a lot like one of those CustomSynth jobs and mean that in a good way. :)

Wow, that's sweet! You should invert the key colours, that would look absolutely sharp. That and use some gold (shiny metallic, not plain old paint) slider caps and knobs. That or purple or orange etc.. to match existing colours on the board. I have to say when that you're done you're going to be one proud Papa. :)

I took a wire brush to the chassis after removing the guts. I got most of it out, but there is still some stained areas and small pockets of rust. Someone had spilled a beer or soda in there and so there was this thick, sticky goo all over everything. I used alcohol and paint thinner to clean it all up. I also removed tons of dirt, cat hair, fingernails, etc as well.

Stock LED's. I wish I had gone ahead and replaced them with blue ones, but I couldn't find any that matched. I did have the pots and sliders replaced with new ones.

Unfortunately I've already committed them elsewhere. If the buyer falls through, I will let you know!

Got the bender board back from Muzik Elektronix today!

Going to hook the power lead and give it a 10-minute "smoke test". If that goes well, I'll connect up the CV lines, calibrate, and test its function.

FYI - I'm considering putting this on ebay. The reasons why are a long story indeed, but its a possibility. Think anyone would be interested?
