what is better of the two? (the price is about the same on italian used market)

I hope kulten will come over this thread.

He is Dr. Es. Phil. Nat. BOSS SYB.

But give a look to this thread :

Kulten will most certainly say the SYB-3 but I kinda like the SYB-5 for the "human voice" effect. (I have both BTW) Can't go wrong with either really.

I have the 5, and i've played the 3 extensively, my vote goes to the 5. More features, and they have nearly the same sound.
No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

Hi !

let's hear some SYB sounds :

SYB-3 SAW http://site.voila.fr/tech/BOSSvs.mp3

SYB-5 SAW with LFO : http://site.voila.fr/sounds/SAW_LFO.mp3

SYB-5 SQUARE with LFO : http://site.voila.fr/sounds/SQUARE_LFO.mp3

SYB-3 SAW - 1 oct. http://site.voila.fr/syb3/SAW.mp3

SYB-3 NOISE http://site.voila.fr/syb3/NOISE.mp3

SYB-3 PWM LEAD http://site.voila.fr/syb3/PWM.mp3

SYB-5 PULSE in TALKING MODE : http://site.voila.fr/sounds/PULSE_2.mp3

SYB-3 : deep saw waveform, weak square, powerfull filter, white noise, good autowah.

SYB-5 : fatter square waveform, sharper filter, no autowah but a "LFO rate" knob, talking mode, better tracking, expression input for an expression pedal Roland EV-5 is a cool idea.

you can also self-trig the SYB-5 : one jack from the "dry output" to the "input", one jack from the "synth output" to an amp, then you'll have a feedback that triggs the SYB-5, and the sound will be modified with the LFO rate knobs.

BOSS SYB-3 :

- DSP synth
- saw, square, pwm
- -1 octave
- noise effect
- wave shape normal/reverse
- autowah normal/reverse
- freq / res / decay /sens / mode knobs
- stereo outputs

BOSS SYB-5 :

- DSP synth
- saw, square, pulse 1, pulse 2, pwm
- double square sound, -1 octave,
- LFO rate effect
- wave shape normal/reverse
- freq / res / decay / rate / mode knobs
- stereo outputs
- expression pedal input

can you made the same sample of the SYB3 saw using the SYB5 saw? i'd like to have a comparison because the one of the first sample it's the sound i'll going to use about all the time(i will use the syb pedal for letting the bassist play the synth bass parts while i play other part)

- first SYB-5 with Freq. and Res. knobs full clokwise
- then SYB-3 with Freq. and Res. knobs full clokwise
- then SYB-5 with Freq. and Res. knobs set to "zero"
- then SYB-3 with Freq. and Res. knobs set to "zero"

all sounds with SAW waveform (mode 1) and full decay :
