Any Other Synth Forums ?

Post by mavertron » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:36 am

Hello,

Due to the fact that this forum seems to have lost its way a little,
i was wondering if there are any other active forums ?

I just want to talk about synths, and the people that used them, and what they used, and what im using, and look at videos of them.

So the question is...

Where else is there ?

Cheers,

mavertron.
I shouldnt be here. I should be writing music.

While, from what I've heard, this place isn't what it used to be, it is still the most active synth forum. I guess there is the analog heaven list. Harmony central has a synth section as well as electro-music. There are a bunch of forums that are specific to a particular brand name. Do a google search. Also, if you want to talk about a particular synth, make your own thread. After looking at the threads on page one...I'm not sure why you are so disappointed...we are talking about synths and there isn't much BS.

You could check out these forums, however I personally prefer VSE to either:

http://www.em411.com/ - Seems to be mostly teens and students making laptop music - too many posts the likes of "circuit bending is totally rad, dude!"

http://electro-music.com/forum/ - Seems to be the professors teaching the kids on the above noted forum. I find it very technical, but the people there are pretty nice, and extremely knowledgeable.

cheers,
ew

This is more a dedicated electronic music forum tho it does have a good tech section and many of the members are serious synth users.

I think this forum is an excellent source of info.

There have already been several good additional forums listed. I also like to think that the forum I run (Keyboard magazine's forum) is a decent place to discuss synths, of course. We definitely have a bunch of player-oriented types there as well, but there's a whole bunch of pretty knowledgeable synth weenies as well.

j**k knees

Post by mavertron » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:28 pm

Hello chaps,

yes this forum is really, i was a bit grumpy earlier, and shouldnt have read the 'what' the f**k' thread.
It put me in a bad mood, so the old knee j**k up..

The bickering gets me down, i just want to talk about synths...

But you are right, this is the most active, and the best forum.

Rock on VSE.

I occasionally also look at http://analogkid.us/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general for more edgy discussion from some really knowledgable guys and 1 chick.

I've been a bit put off by the sameyness of the threads interspersed with the name calling of late.
But if I ever need an answer this is the place to come to.
Its put a stop to those stress headaches on many an occasion.
Though it has fueled my desire for a certain 16 voice multitimbral modern analogue beast if late...

I really wish I could remember to get ALL the parts on my damn list when i went to the electronics shoppe though............
One capacitor short on my MFOS Phaser.
Gah!

As a new member, I have to say that I like the VSE forums; especially because it does'nt just cater to old analog synths. I've seen some complaints about the moderators, but I see no heavy-handedness going on. I prefer having moderators to none any day, let the spam bots and asshats take over and then you really have people leave.

The Keys/Synth/Samplers forum at Harmony Central has the same problems as this one...lots of bickering and useless posting. They hold the all time prize for the longest threads arguing about the Korg Oasys anywhere in the known universe. A number of folks who post here also post there (like me).
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

The first step is not taking it too seriously ... It's just synthesis ...

I think many posters tend to take their frustrations in life and filter it into various threads ...

Personally, I think this forum could benefit from a little more "useless posting" ... if there's a criticism I have, it's that the threads always seem so samey ... Does anybody use the 'search' function?
