Are there any DX7 Mods?

You would think that somebody would have come up with something by now, possibly adding some knobs for easier editing and real time control. If there's not, then why?

knobs will not work. unless you can move the knob back and forth REALLY fast..
i'll bet people have painted them though... i'm about to trade a bent sk1 for one soon.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a Moog Slayer type mod, not that specifically, but something that would make using a DX7 more enjoyable. Easier said than done I guess.

The DX7 has four means of real time parameter manipulation, plus the fifth parameter can be assigned to the data slider. It is quite an expressive instrument right off the box. Use the breath controller - you can now change six different aspects of sound. Apart from this, you can plug in a sustain pedal, which allows for extremely expressive performances alone. You can still have another pedal for portamento on/off.

How often do you tweak six different knobs at the time on an analogue synth during one song? No knobs? I don't mind, I'm already in synthesists heaven

try whacking one through an amp with distortion...youll get all sorts of glitchy metally goodness, i've made guitarists cry at times doing that :p lmao

I use FM7 myself but I still prefer a hardware knobby interface.

i had modded DX7... don't remember that mod name but... hmmm DX7 had 2 memory banks instead of 1

The two most common internal mods when the DX7 was current was E! and a backlit display.

My DX7 has an upgrade called Sycologic V2. It adds 3 more banks, so that I've got four banks of 32 patches. Button 12 in FUNCTION mode assigns the data slider to bank selector.
