Try abbreviating as many of the instrument/brand names as you can.

I don't like gear list for a few reasons..
a) it seems to promote gear snobbery and
b) promotes elitist attitudes towards those whose list is paltry.. (i.e. your opinion is somehow less valid if you only have a microkorg and a es-1)
c) still seems like bragging to me
d) makes me wonder if guys with huge collections ever even use the awesome gear they have or if it sits behind glass in a precious collection.
e) makes me realize I need a better job to be able to afford some of the s**t I'm always GASsing over.
f) often reminds me that I didn't buy a prophet 5 for $200 back in 1993 for some reason!! guh
g) reminds me of bad independent bands listing their gear in their first (and only) CD liner notes. Tragi-comic!!
h)makes me jealous as h**l!!!

Buy Casio CZ5000 and Yamaha DX7 today for 200$ and wait 20 years when their price will have multiplied by 10 and you'll have a reason to be happy

I haven't seen that attitude here... if anything, I have seen people make great stuff with low-end gear...and get commended for it.

While this is generally not a positive thing it does have it's place. For example, who would you listen to when the topic is how the Prophet 5 and Jupiter 8 compare, someone with a Microkorg and ES-1 or someone with a Prophet 5 and Jupiter 8?

anyway.. even though my reasons are admittedly bunk, I still don't really like ye olde gear list sig... or in liner notes... unless you're six finger satellite or ryuichi sakamoto

I'd be proud to post my list in my signature [Roland JX-10 - Alesis QS6 - Minimoog Voyager Electric Blue - Korg 05rw], if I thought it mattered. When my friend, Charlie Lang only uses a Yamaha Motif 8 for his music, it's hard to recognize the point in I, myself listing all that gear time and again.

But, I'm glad to see others' lists.

Whatever it takes, man. The guys with the longest gear lists are usually the ones who aren't ever posting any music. (OK, I've never posted any HERE because my stuff is more soundtracky/orchestral. You can find my music at my site if you're curious, but analog synths take a supporting role.)

no one's gonna bother.
they simply don't steal synths unless they're worth tons of money (several thousands). they steal flatscreen TV's and popular cars.

I'm definitely against gearlists.
I guess it's partly because when I started out with synths, I couldn't wait untill I had a decent setup to put in my gearlist, and was always jealous at people with a huge setup. I guess I still believed getting synth A or B was really necessary to improve my music/synthskills.
I consider myself a fool when I look backwards now...
the longer you're into this, the more you realize that whatever gear you have doesn't change so much about what you do with it.
they're all only "instruments".
and once you have so many synths you start downscaling again, you feel it's completely useless to post a gearlist.

but I can understand the people who say it opens you up to questions from others that are interested in getting something you own.
so if there ever is a time to post a gearlist without having the feeling you're bragging, I guess this is, so here goes :

all the other stuff I ever sold (not so much) was just plain c**p like MC303,... that I bought many many many years ago, before the internet was widely spread and you believed whatever the local music store told you

but they're all only instruments. and I think that if some fire would destroy my studio tomorrow, I'd probably only really get back half of the synths in there, just 4 or 5 I couldn't live without, the rest is just nice extra's to have around.
