Back in the Yamaha CS Club

My new Yamaha CS-10, $170 with case.

I had one before, sold it, and regretted it. So I found another. It's a cool synth because:
1. Fast filter - One of the fastest analog filters I've ever heard.
2. Clear deep bass. Use a bass amp and look out!
3. Big square - pure square wave if you want one.
4. Effects - I usually use a little delay with this, but just about any guitar or bass effect sounds great. I think it's because the output signal strong and clear.
5. This is a great synth to sample. It's cool to make long samples while turning the freq cut off, then play around with the start and stop points of the sample. You can get some very cool things.

The bad things are: 1 osillator, 12 db filter, and the funky way that Yamaha set up the LFO. Still, it's great for what it is.

Oh yea, I also found this whacky 1 oscillator monophonic for $20, Technics SY-1010.

Only one waveform, sort of a sawtooth I guess., sounds kind of warm and buzzy. :albino: The oscillator drifts like crazy, but whatever - $20. Also, it has no dedicated VCO, VCF, or VCA ICs, just transistors, opamp ICs, and point to point circuits. So it should be rather easy to mod this. I don't think I'll ever find a schematic for it, so I may just have to experiment. :glasses3:

Welcome back to the CS club. You are right, the CS-10 is a great little synth. I have just sold mine to a guy in London and he is collecting it this weekend. I will miss it. I have upgraded to a CS-40M and want it to be my only CS synthesizer.

It does look nice, but it really is just a budget synth. I'll get a short demo song up here in a day or two. However, it sounds exactly like the one in this Youtube vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K1HkIs_T2c

Ha! No, I found both in Japaneses recycle shops (second hand stores.) The Technics was $20. The Yamaha was $170.
I've lived in Japan off and on since 1983. Next month, I'm moving to central Utah, so I thought I'd better stock up! Bought some stuff for my nephew too.

Hi Clueless,
Yea it's been hot up here in Aomori too - I think 36 today.

And no I don't mind you asking, but I'm not with the church. I'm with the government. I'm moving to Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah.

I'm ok about leaving Japan. Heck, I've been back and forth four times already. And I'm from Colorado, so Utah is great for me.

No one should be without a CS of some sort.

Congratulations on your bargains. Use them wisely :)

If you ever sell that Technics once you move to the US, please keep me in mind.

Hey Mixolydian, if you happen to see another one of those technics for cheap can you pick one up for me and bring it back with you when you move back to the states? I have been wanting to try one, but I can't justify paying $100 to ship a synth that is $100 or less itself. I would obviously hit you up with some cash for it.
.....i have some things that create and sculpt sound.

Hey, wait your turn buddy. I'd pay $200 for that synth in a second. Where did you find it for that price?
