I have both and wouldn't say the P600 is thinner than the P5.

I find that the P5 has a smoother, more refined sound in comparison to the P600 which seems more raw and less detailed. The P5 also seems to have extended parameter ranges compared to to the P600, faster envelopes and LFOs, longer release etc. Also Osc 2 on the P5 can be disconnected from the keyboard and has a low freq option so it can be used as an extra LFO. I prefer the Oscillator/Noise mixer with a separate knob for each source on the P5 to the single mix knob on the P600. Also the P5 LFO has more waveforms which can be combined, on the P600 you can only switch between the 2.

So overal the P5 is more versatile, but I still find the P600 useful and different enough to justifying having both.

I think the P600 is actually fatter at moderate to high filter resonance settings, or if you kick in both triangle waves in combination with saws or pulses in VCO. There are a host of other ways it doesn't measure up to a Prophet 5 though... all well documented.

I'd probably get the P600, just to find out if I really like the sound. Later on, I'd either supplament it or replace it with a P5.

Have any of you ever tried playing a P5 like a piano? Not practical, I know, but I've done it with six-voice instruments. If I did have a P5, I'd use it for one hand or the other, but (probably) never both.
