I know but one guy went out of his way to tell me I needed to read a book on music theory and that all the demos were "harsh and unmusical"...he quickly deleted the comment though so as not to be a total prick, I suppose.

No good deed goes unpunnished ;)

Its all good, I guess.

Demo 3 sounds interesting. Other than that, I don't hear anything really appealing at all. Whatever. I'm an acid man.

Thanks for that. It can do some pretty interesting stuff, it seems. Might I recommend that you try turning out a few more techno-like patches, though (i.e. bassy resonant fast-envelope type sounds)? If you feel like it anyways.

Carbon, good on you for posting, regardless. Now you know why most manufacturers don't get involved in such things!

These demos sound very good.

What's up with that KSS feedback anyway?? I was reading some of those arrogant prick comments and I was flabbergasted. I appreciate your work James, good stuff. :D

Thanks. Its just we all do such very different things with the same tools. thats fine with me as I've got eclectic tastes ;)

People are so fickle...they say they want something, you give it to them then they say it wasn't what they really wanted.

All part of the "America Syndrome" - we want it all and we want it yesterday. For free. :D

I feel like I am hearing some unpleasant clipping on Demo 3? If so, is it happening at the output of the '08 or were your record levels too hot?

I am not criticizing the demos, just trying to decipher the characteristics of the '08.

(Please disregard if I am hearing things!)

I'm really learning you can't please everybody. A lot of folks over on KSS really hate these demos...especially the third one with the filter FM.
Tsk, James. Focus on the positives, will you? I think a lot of us over there were grateful. Only a few were pricks.

I heard the clipping, too. Which I mention in my grateful post "over there." He DID say it was a quick demo, but I found the irony of the digital clipping too funny.

There's no clipping. Unless maybe about 5 seconds in for just a moment.

The filter is being driven very heavily with FM into distortion and you're hearing the overtones being swept...Its very close to one of my favorite patches on my Prophet 600 used as a "bed" in this tune from about 1:11 onward: http://carbon111.com/music/blackriver.mp3

I should have just done proper sequenced demos into Protools, mastered them and added some reverb ;)

Edit: I've just listend to this again...It was recorded very hot and will probably distort on some computer speakers rather easily...jeez, maybe I should just re-record everything. Or just throw in the towel. :D

James, unless you remade them since yesterday, there is some clipping. Yeah, it's not severe, or distracting, but it's there none the less. I personally don't hold it or the Oasys against you.

I edited the above post to say it was recorded really hot...there may be some clipping. I dunno, I give up ;)

FWIW, all the sounds I posted have some filter FM and tend toward bright/brash timbres...the Prophet'08 will also do mellow pretty well. Ski's demos are a better indicator of overall timbre...

I had inquired about the clipping only because I had heard this could be an an issue with the Evolvers and was wondering if the '08 had inherited this issue as well.

Don't give up now! I know you had one lame a*s comment on another forum (also noticed there was no link to any music he had done!) but there are alot of us who can't wait to hear more. :D
