TR-909 kick drum replacements

Post by vanitypolice » Sat Sep 15, 2007 5:20 pm

So, I just parted ways with my TR-909. I just wasn't getting enough use out of it to warrant hoarding it. Someone else will definately get more use out of it than I.

Having said that, I NEED to replace the kick. That was all I ever used it for. Does anyone reccomend (hardware or software) something that will help soothe my analog drum wounds. virtual, sampled or whatever else. I'm open to it all.
I have found that when it comes to gear, believe the hype.

looks pretty awesome and exactly what I'm pining for. i checked it out at the jomox site.
Do you guys have one? Do I buy it direct from them or do they crop up on ebay every so often?

I have never owned or used one...but people who I trust have used it and liked it. They do show up on ebay once in awhile, but they are also sold at analog haven and nova musik and places like that.

Who needs TR909 when you got a refrigerator. Just slam the door, great bass drum sound. Even better, a freezer. Or just go all the way with kitchen appliances like these guys:

It actually works. And you get to smash stuff.

The Quasimidi 309 can do the 909 kick and tons more.

Yeah. at Nova Musik, the MBase01 is $299. That looks like a good price to me.

Oh, and I've owned the Quasimidi 309. While it's nice, the jomox is definately a more streamlined unit. I don't need a fullblown drum-perc synth/mono-synth/groovebox, just a kick.

for that money ,,.,. it still seems more logical to just get a TR909 imo.

oh .. and the kick sounds better. If you want more control mod the 909 yourself .. it's easy.

really? ah .. maybe that's New York/LA prices then. Never paid more than $800.

If you get the JoMoX .. i'd suggest sampling it. It's pure sound is unpleasing to my ears ..

If you've been looking for an excuse to get into a mini modular:

I've seen them at Analogue Haven in the US, but I haven't listened to them myself. Seems like a cool box, though. They have other drum modules on their site from the CR78, 808 and 909.

Any links to your favorite mods? I'm only familiar with colin fraser's mods.
