Mk. II lacks the dirt of the original.

Yeah. The MK1 has a noticeable hiss to it, but the DX7-II is much cleaner. However, some say the MK1 has a lot more bite to it... while the DX7-II is cleaner in sound.

Depends what kind of sound you're going for.

The DX7IIFD is one of the most beautiful synths ever made. The original was triple-cheeked butt hideous.

you might want to do a search in these forums. I remember someone posted audio clips that compared the two synths using the same sounds. This was months ago. The difference was extremely subtle
