I just watched the video on his news page and I lol'ed when he mentions not having to dig thru menus like on the artificial versions of these synthesizers, very clever :)

hehe. Dave Smith is an awesome dude. :)

Speaking of which, I'm becoming more and more impressed with the P '08.

The Prophet 08 was a really well thought out synth. I guess the big thing is unlike the (Poly)Evoler it has to live up to the name "prophet" This is a tricky area. You want it to sound and operate like a Prophet, but you want it to be something new. I haven't quite been stunned my the new Moogs. although they are really cool I just don't see any new ideas.

The Prophet 08 is by far my favorite board, along with the M1 that is.

I have seem a couple people make mention of the Dave Smith DVD appearance. I thought it was entertaining, what did everybody else think?

Some harsh filter fm sounds combined with stepsequencers for a kind of modular easter egg:

Another good demo. I really liked the osc sync tones.

I tried a Prophet 08 today and was quiet impressed. It had a nice warm sound and to my ears did a good job at emulating a P5. I loved the horn patches and those sync sounds were great too. A bit too tame for me though....but i think thats coz im used to the nasty Jupe4.

Perfect! thanks.

Does anyone know if there is a way to trigger the 'gated' sequencer without a midi controller connected? Or to hear anything? A preview button? How about the hold/latch button?

Sorry about being picky, but the 08 is not emulating anything It can sound close to a P5 because the circuitry is quite similar....

either you're not being picky, or I am far deeper into synth geekery than I thought, but I was about to post a similar comment...no emulating going on at all... its its own beast...just happens to be designed and built by the mind behind the original prophets...so plenty of overlap...

Can anyone here comment on the quality of the '08 filter? Are we talking great, good, average? Im not familiar with the 3396 chip but im guessing its probably the most technically superior Curtis chip ever made - but does it sound good? Or does it sound budget mid 80's?

Anyone care to post some filter sweeps....

Thanks
