You'll hear it all over the early Jean-Michel Jarre albums. The basslines, some sound effects. But mostly big bass sounds, like the megasound in Oxygene 5. (comes in about halfway through the ambient part).

That synth is so odd it would be fun to have it for a week and figure out how it actually works. Digital oscillators that creates harmonics.

It must be an early model of the RMI, because there are no markings on the sliders, later models have the marker settings ie: 0....5....10

Yes and it was also used for the choruslead in Oxygene 4 and the same bellsound in Oxygene 6.

Nice pic btw. but it seems like the graphictexture in the sliderarea is missing.

That could be a very early unit although the nameplate on the ones pictured in the original RMI publicity from 1974 says *RMI Synthesizer* on it rather than *RMI Harmonic synthesizer*.

Also, on the production version "Digital Harmonic generator" is printed on both sides of the front panel above the rows of sliders.

I have a good quality recording (mp3/320kbps) of the original demo disk for the RMI Harmonic synthesizer & Keyboard Computer KC-I, so if anyone is interested drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

You could dump it on putfile.com or something :).

I think Jarre sold his on Vemia a few years ago. I'm also guessing that some of the sounds attributed to the Harmonic Synth are actually the keyboard computer. I think that weird "Rhythmin' Computer" on the list of gear on Oxygene is actually the keyboard computer? I think that has the sequencer, whereas the Harmonic synth has an arpeggiator?

I'm glad to hear you liked the RMI demos, madtheory

Afaik, Jarre didn't use the RMI Keyboard Computer KC-1 on "Oxygene", he first used it on 1978's Equinoxe along with the Harmonic synthesizer.

The "Rhythmi-computer" listed in the gear list for Equinoxe was a rhythm-box --apparently a modified Korg minipops 7 made programmable--built by Michel Geiss.
