Stunning demo-those sounds are really something special.
My first experience of Oberheim sounds was Laurie Anderson's "Big Science" LP,the OBXa I think it was.

Nice demo... I love the sounds that Obie puts out. People always call them "rock" synths that cut through the mix but your demo shows they can be quite mellow too. I would "JUMP" on one if the opportunity presented itself.

i didnt get this new. I was probably about 5 when it was new
there is a preset in my demo that the band Japan used on Tin Drum i think.

HFinn, how do you feel it compares to that beastly Four-Voice you had?
Posted: Wed Nov 14, 2007 3:51 pm
there are pros and cons. The four voice had an awesome charachter. The obx is VERY similar sonically (with four more voices) and its much easier to dial in sounds.

Nice demo and pretty much sums up the obx sounds.
It's the sweetest sounding poly i have.
Mine is ready for a recap restoration soon.

A total Oberheim desert. Maybe a Matrix 6 once in a while.

this is proof that progress is not automatically better. i'd much rather have a new OB-X than an A6, but it just isn't going to happen.
the sample & hold, strings and filter sweeps outclass all the other polys i've heard.
it's like magic...so powerful yet delicate

That sounds truly majestic, Heath - a lovely demo.

The only Oberheim I've ever seen for sale in Norway was a completely broken OB-8 in a store. And the tragedy is that they tried to hawk it for $2000! I played it, and about 40% of the panel functions didn't even work, including the paddles. Ridiculous. And neatly, the previous owner had wiped the patch banks aswell.
Oh yeah, and there's the Matrix-12 that's been on analog.no/salg for years now. A tad too expensive aswell (same as a new Andromeda).

Well, that´s the price they go for in Europe.....
I want one, but I´m happy with my Xpander.....

Posted: Thu Nov 15, 2007 1:14 am
The Chroma has been done. Quite lovely it is.
Check Heaths site out on his posts. It may still be there.
PS: Just had a quick look and I dont think it is. Pester him. Its worth it!

Here is a song featuring the Chroma heavily:

That sounds magnificent Heath, a great demo.
Just hoping my OBXa will provide results as good when fixed up.
