Post by zmd » Wed Dec 05, 2007 1:13 am

so, i'm bored at work, cruising youtube for synth demos and such...when i see this.

poly 800 super mod

what is it? i emailed korg too, but i figured i'd ask here. i see it'll add some nice features, like an extra lfo. but, is it baloney? has anyone else heard of this thing?

I don't think it's from Korg there has been considerable reverse engineering going on with the Poly 800 from hobbyists (not to be confused with hobbits) to improve the coding. I'm sure this is something from one of them.
Stuff I own:
X Station
ESQ-1
JX-8P
Poly 800
MaxiKorg 800DV
Elka Rhapsody 610

Join the poly-800 Yahoo group. Lots of info on mods and last time I checked (a while ago) they were working on some real serious mods far beyond the moog slayer and filter input mods.

Not that I was ever 100% happy about having to part with my 800ii, but I'm regretting it even more after seeing that! :(

Oh I've seen this. It allows midi control parameters and adds memory.

I think.
so what do I put down here now?

It doesn't really interest me too much. It just adds an LFO to a very mediocre sounding synth. It's like putting salt on a turd sandwich...it still tastes like c**p.

why would korg be in any way involved in an aftermarket upgrade to an out of production synth?

insky: the mod is going to be way more than just adding a 2nd LFO, at least that is planned. Just the other day the guy who is developing it made it possible to use other waveforms for the LFO also
