+1 for the ION suggestion. But if you can score cheap, the CS6x which can be expanded with the PLG-AN plus other, would give you more drums and better 61 keys with aftertouch.

what kind of a synthesizer is needed to achieve the sounds that darkwave/gothic ebm producers use ? also what do you think of yamaha qs-300?

If you wana make trance then a JP-8000 is your ticket. Its full of features too.

The X-Station is a solid choice for dance sounds. Filter overdrive and a flexible unison mode are handy.

VNV Nation claimed the Virus synth is the staple synth for darkwave and futurepop EBM/industrial.

I don't think so.. I'm talking about the Virus sound. Listen to VNV Nation's first cd. YOu know VNV Nation? Well, the first cd is Virus all over the place. I think it was a VIRUS A synth.
