deficient wave forms (an1x has no triangle and sine)

What is your opinion of this VAs?

If the MS2000 (or microKORG) had eight note (or even six note!) polyphony, I probably would never need -- or want -- to buy another keysynth, which is probably why KORG made these two 4-voice to begin with!

Japanese girls are cool.... er .... yeah... I like Japanese synths...

I have microkorg and an1x - both have their own distinct characteristics. Sounds corny, but I like the an1x's warmth and range of sounds. I tend to view the microkorg/ms2000 as more a digital synth presented in the manner of an analogue rather than as some kind of analogue emulation... well, I know what I mean anyway!

For me the an1x has more compatibility with my computer setup The an1x editor works flawlessly in linux and I've never had any problems with sysex dumps and stuff. I've *just* managed to get sysex working with my microkorg, but Korg' s sound editors don't work. Could be my usb midi port that's at fault.

My microkorg wins out on portability of course. So it's useful to sit with my laptop, and for it's general grab-and-go. The arpeggiator is a plus point too. The programmable steps are a nice feature.

Haven't tried a JP, so I won't comment on that.

The AN1x will produce a sine wave - you just need to turn the VCO "edge" parameter to 0.

Of the 3 VAs you listed, I prefer the AN1x for its sound. If the AN1x had the interface of the JP-8000, and the build-quality of the MS-2000 (i.e. it wasn't made almost entirely of plastic) it would be so great. Can't win them all I guess.

AN1X - Sounds freakin great all over. Arp/seq is great, no inputs isn't so great. Sometimes prone to getting cought in an untriggered wierd feedback loopy deal thing ocassionally which aint so great. Also wish it had more drum kits as only compare it more to the CS1X & 2X, not to other VAs.

JP-80x0 - Pretty but over all boring sounding. Supersaw = highly highly overated. Characteristic Roland quality bass can be good & bad. Overdriven sounds are pretty good tho, and paddy strings can seem to flow and sound nicely.

MS2000 - Biggest negative is its a Korg [a personal thing], but fairly great sound, always love the gritty basses it can give out. Never had one, but have heard them a lot and Korg seems the only one of the 3 really still left in the VA war.

But why? They aren't all Tritons you know.

They have some really great analogue synths, many that have their own appeal in my opinion, as well as all the new fangled digital stuff.

So is it really fair to dismiss the whole company? Especially when you admit that some of their stuff sounds good?

Devtrons sticker is spot on with me. I love it.

Had a long post, but edited down to... jambo your right, it really isn't fair of me to judge Korg and all their gear, but I can't help it, I have a bias. I do know they've made some great gear and don't want to bias anyone further on these pieces because of my own brandname tastes or favortism.

I was really excited about the JP8000(serious GAS for this one- ribbon control- come on!) and MS2000(saw Matmos tweaking one and was hooked) when they came out and after actually playing them my yearning dissipated somewhat, The only ones I've really liked so far are the Ion and K2600(drool) so far, but I'm very excited to try an An1x!

I'm still somewhat smitten w/ analog I guess- I actually like the noise and warbly character, but I'm starting to get really tired of six note polyphony, I still am somewhat shocked @ the lack of poly in the new VA's as well. I dont need 32 voices but 8 and !!!4!!! come on man, esp. Korg(whom I love btw Mono/poly por vida) its been almost 30 yrs for christs sake...
