Best orchestral / world / soundscape oriented synth

Post by redroomrecordings » Sat Dec 29, 2007 10:29 pm

Just wondering if you guys have and recommendations for a synth / rompler what have you that is geared heavily towards orchestral and world sounds and also bizzare organic textures.

I already have the gear to make enough fat leads bass and pads to last a life time. Looking for something more organic, specifically something that does organic soundscapes well.

im also not looking to spend more that about $800 on it right now, and would perfer something rack mounted.

take a look at what i got in my sig, if you have any other suggestions of what might compliment my rig feel free to add that.

thanks everyone.

This should be in the buyers guide section...

That being said I would recommend the Korg Wavestation or Yamaha SY-22/77/99 series...

Roland JV1080 with Special FX and Asia/World expansions. Special effects is basically the Distorted Reality sample CD in a ROM.

See http://www.synthmania.com/sr-jv80-05.htm and http://www.synthmania.com/sr-jv80-15.htm

buy yourself a solton ms60 or ms100

there is no better synth/rompler you speak of to do what you want.

Roland's World Expansion (for the hardware route).

Do you have a XV/JV series synth? If not I recommend the XV-5080 which takes both SRX and JV format expansion cards (unlike the Fantom which only takes SRX). It is also an incredible synth with great sounds and a great synth engine all around.

The Card has more "world" (I hate that word) sounds than you could shake a stick at, plus Roland's (read: Eric Persing's) awesome bizarre soundscapes that come on that card. It is a lot more than just bongos...some really incredibly programmed sounds and ambiance and loops.
JP-8080, Virus B, TG-77, JD-990, D-550, XV-5080, CS1x, Matrix 1000, SE-1, SuperNova II Pro Rack, MKS-50, EMX-1, TX-802, Nord Rack 2X, Korg RADIAS

agree, for $800, the XV-5080 plus some board would be one of the best choice for those sounds.
