one of the reason to feel good for owning several mono synths is to link them and make a poly system like this pulse rack in Cikira's studio:

anyone else with a pile of monos?

LOL It's a lot easier to read the slightly obstructed writing on the back panel on the Andromeda on the left than of the front panels of the Polymorphs or Virii in that wall.

Ah, I did not think of this. I also am in the Microkorg-MS2000BR camp.

And on the subject of similar...Matrix 1000 and Cheetah MS6.

And, really stretching the "similar" definition...Prophet 10 and Creamware Pro-12.

I'm not going to get into a list of all of the soft synths that replicate vintage synths in my studio.

anyway, about the closest i get is owning an EMX and an EM1. they share some sounds, but they're still pretty different.

I have a DX7 Mark 1 and a TX7, which are pretty much the same instrument.

My DX has the Sycologic V2 upgrade, which gives it 4 banks of 32 patches. Bank 4 is identical to the TX7 bank. I can edit the sounds on the DX, then send the bank via sysex to the TX, which as you know isn't programmable at all.

I occasionally layer two sounds, but 99% of the time, they are used as two separate FM sound sources.

So no, there's nothing wrong about having two identical machines. In fact, I'd quite like a second JV-1080.

yeah it's kinda like having multiple guitars that are the same, but may have different pickups or wiring or colors or 6/12 strings or whatnot. We're musicians, redundancy is a given fact of what we do.... :D it's those that aren't that scratch their heads, like my ex-gf. She just couldnt understand that my 'boards and modules all have a different function in the grand scheme.

i used to have JX-10 and MKS-70, as it was big part of my sound in the 90s. hwoever, as i got extra modules, i started using it less. and finally sold first one MKS and than JX, and only kept one module.

also i had DX-7 and TX-802. TX stayed. i do have FS1R too ,but its really a different beast. also, same fm patches sound very different in character.

well, recently, i really wanted to pick up another jupiter8. however, the prices went to neverland bfr i could muster tha cash, as it was spent on other complementary boards instead. argh u cant have everything. but im really sorry i dont have another one. as i can actually use two in my music, and if it comes to it, have one for spares in 10+ yrs time.

right now im strongly considering picking up another andromeda, once they announce stopping of production. so i get a brand new one.. and have old one for live gigs, and/or for spares. yes sounds crazy, but i do use it a LOT. and would be kinda lost without it. so..

not a synth but.. i could use another lexicon 300. no harm in that believe me.. beautiful machine.

I have 2 Quasimidi Polymorphs, but am finally selling 1 in the For Sale section right now. It's fun having more than one, but you really only need one.... right
