AX-80

Post by bluedad » Thu Mar 06, 2008 2:12 pm

Just saw this on Craig's List at a location a mile or so away...
my question is, I already have a DW8000 and an ESQ1,
is the AX-80 similiar in sound?
the asking price is $250, is that too much?
thanks for any advice!

My god, you ask if 250$ is too much for a AX-80? I envy your situation.
I'm very lucky if I can find one here in Norway for under 600$

I would buy one just for those uber-cool blue displays, but as far as I've heard the Akai synths have a pretty unique sound that would also justify the buy.

You've got a friend in Jexus:

I particularly like the warbly growling stuff. Sounds much more interesting than the AX60 to me. Just wish it had sliders for each function.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

I know the AX-80 was regarded as a hidden gem a few years ago. Looks like it's not so hidden anymore.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!

i hope you went for it! i just sold my AX-80 on ebay last week for $510!!!
and i was only asking $230 ... h**l, i got it three years ago for $230 anyways.
it's an amazing synth, that is for sure. i just wasn't giving it proper attention
anymore. also sold my dw-8000 last week too... but because it was craiglist
and not ebay, only got $250 for it. but i'm already looking for a ex-8000
because i miss the dw so much, but dont have the room!

I think $250 is very fair if it's in good condition!

realistically tho, I think you might find quite a bit of overlap between your current synths..... but hey, you can always try it out and if you don't like it, at least get your money back!
Do you even post on vse bro?
