I love the sound of the OB-8 as well, but find its interface to be a bit counterintuitive for several of its functions.

well, the page 2 stuff can be a little annoying, but most polysynths didnt have those features, plus most people dont use things like LFO quantize, LFO delay etc all that often. i find the rest of it to be pretty easy to get around.
right now, as the ob8 arpeggiator is cycling in the background, im thinking this thing sounds way better than most synths. including the jupiter 8. but its been a week or so since i played a jp8 so i might just need a refresher.
anyway, its all subjective. the jp8 does things the ob8 cant and vice versa. i think this ob8s coming off the market.

One of the reasons why I'd select an OB-8 above the OB-Xa is that side panel that lets you pan all eight voices individually. Is this feature unique to the OB-8, or has it popped up other places?

it was continued in the Xpander/Matrix-12 in the multi pages.

The OBXa has pan pots. You have to pop the lid to get to them. Not as convenient as the OB8. The Matrix 12/Xpander can store pan settings as part of each Multi-Patch.

Compared the filters on my old JP-8 with an OB-8 side-by-side once, in 12 dB mode liked them equally, but in 24 dB mode the JP-8 sounded a lot better (to my ears). Not saying the OB-8 sounds bad in 24 dB mode, just preferred the JP.

so, i played the jupiter-6 for a while last night, right after the ob-8.
its not like i havent played plenty of these but last night was different, maybe because ive been away from the studio for too long and need to get back to making some music!
the jp6 has a multimode filter, so it offers a lot more flexibility than the ob8 filter. overall though, the ob8 filter sounds better to me. the jp6 filter can really take some fussing to make it sound right. the resonance is a little strange. but once youve found its sweet spot it too kicks some serious a*s.
weve been installing europa midi in all our jp6s now. this is one sick midi upgrade and i urge all jp6 owners to get this upgrade. tell them minime123 sent you. we need more europa style upgrades for more analog synths!
