It seems to me this could be achieved on a DX7 (although admittedly I'm too lazy to try it)--with something like Algorithm 16...

Just checked, but whatever 3 3 1 1 combination, there's not going to be any triangle as result. Heck, the default sine looks more like a triangle than any wave I get with those ratios, with whatever levels .. :P

My mistake, I meant a ratio of 2 rather than 3. It's still not a perfect triangle wave (it's rounder and more squared off), but it can be effective with a little experimentation nevertheless.
