Korg EX VS Poly 800 sound

Post by metrosonus » Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:29 pm

Ive never owned an EX until I bought one from another forumite elsewhere. It sounded quite dry compared to all the polys Ive owned and repaired over the years... So I dug out my poly and using the same factory voices, I A/B'ed them and the poly sounds much more analog and raw compared to the EX. I adjusted the filter trim pots and while it thickened up the sound, it still didn't seem to have the vibrancy that the poly has.

Granted, the EX was in pristine shape and only needed some basic maintenance to get running. I'd say it was just age taking it's toll on the poly, but after my first one died years ago, everyone i've owned since has had the same sound. So I figure it's the standard and not the exception. Granted the sound of the poly is why I love them so much. I may just swap out the voice board since I like having the ex so much...

anybody else have any experience with both ?
