Anyway, I don't understand flat out _favorites_, as in, "better than anything else out there", in art. Every synth, like all things in art, has its own niche and charm, and no synth contains them all (otherwise the first statement wouldn't be true).
As objects of technology, synths may be ranked based on certain numerical data, but as objects and producers of art, like any in the highest level, they are essentially unrankable because their greatness does not depend on rankable numbers and other such factors.

I don't like lumping anything into 'favorites' so much either, but it can be seen as a more relative term on an individual basis. Ie: a piece of gear that you feel especially keen about, at least enough to justify it ranking as more than a useful tool..i_watch_stars wrote:http://www.vintagesynth.org/phpBB2/view ... ight=synth

Thanks for the link to the thread, I did a quick search for one before I posted but obviously didn't look hard enough

Would you really rank a CS-01 that high? They always looked a bit simpler too me, although I haven't had a chance to play one... The prices they go for seem to be more reasonable, so it might be a good investment when I get some spare $...space6oy wrote:ah, playing favorites...

its simplicity's the reason i love it. tons of other synths blow it away w/ capabilities, it's just nice to be able to throw stuff together w/ it, use it to write lines, stuff like that. i kind of based those favorites i threw out on what i'd keep if i had to drop everything else...eucarya wrote:Would you really rank a CS-01 that high? At this precise moment I'm going to say the Roland Juno 60. 8)
EDIT: Why?!
Because it's cheap(ish), sounds great, looks cool and it's easy to programme. 8)

Re: Favorite. Synth. Ever.
If you asked "which 3 synths are the closest to your heart in comparison to others" that could be easier. It's like asking a parent which of their kids is their favoriteeucarya wrote:Be it analog or digital,
