Just got a JP8000
On impulse this morning - for $600 NZ - that's about 200 pounds. I guess I wouldn't have if it hadn't seemed such a bargain. And I'v sworn to sell some stuff to make room (and cash!).
But I'v always wanted one - all those knobs! No holding my breath while I menu dive! All on the surface and visible. I'm expecting also to get badass bass and lots of easily achieved subass, some nice warm strings if possible and a good allround synth to play live.
The main thing I'm going to sell to make way for it is a Novation Nova and I'm expecting the JP8000 to generally be gruntier,(how does one find the right word for sounds). Am I right about the JP8000 being at the top of the VAs?

Tom, congrats on your purchase! This is definately the king of VA's, of the ones I've tried and heard.
You're very right about the knobs, it's simply hands-on! The part of the synth I use the least is the actual keyboard
I just press a chord w/ the arpeggiator on and then elaborate with the functions to get a decent sound and then store it.
I use it for leads, bass arps to a certain extent, noises and resonant sweeps especially synth brass style. You can also find some nasty 90's house sounds underneath the hood.
The price wasn't that bad either!
However - I got mine in a trade for my Juno-D

Thanks iProg
- I see you,ve got a JX8P - this is one of the things I was thinking of selling in favour of the JP8000 and wanted to know how the presrt bass patch in mono mode is v the JP8000?

These two synths blend pretty well, don't sell your JXtom Cadillac wrote:Thanks iProg- I see you,ve got a JX8P - this is one of the things I was thinking of selling in favour of the JP8000 and wanted to know how the presrt bass patch in mono mode is v the JP8000?

The JP is better for bass IMO, the mono mode is thicker and the portamento is WAY better on the JP, if you like that rubber bass feel.
On top of that, I found lots of bass presets on my JP8000 from the previous owner who obviously used it for recreating classic bass sounds!

Thanks! - the thing is though my JX8P is real sick - the display's gone and I tried to use a kenton control freak (which is pre-programmed to do this) to programme it, but it won't work, So I'm left with the glorious presets.
It spent over 6 months "being repaired", but came back just as sick. It would be a great synth for someone to get cheap analogue sounds in a band - warm strings and so on. So I might let it go to a more appreciative owner??? If the JP8000 is going to get me the badass bass I want that is.

The presets on the JX-8P are lol.
I've edited almost all of them, the soundtrack pad (P17) became 1005940 times more apropriate just by pushing the cutoff half an inch upwards on the PG-800
If that synth really is that broken, go find a better mechanic or sell it as soon as possible. Talking from my own experience, broken gear drives my nuts and selling it makes me yawn for other synths! 8)

mmmmmmm.... sounds like its time for the JX8P to move on then.
The joy is in the tweaking!

Yeah, you,re probably right about the virus. I,m reasonably sure its the `wow factor`synth in a lot of the D n B I hear - sounds so nasty (in a good way)
Thing is though - I can`t really afford one, as even the rack version is quite a bit more here than the JP8000 I got.
