Korg M1
I just scored a Korg M1 + flightcase and card for £65. I think i got a pretty sweet deal there. I sould get it this weekend with a bit of luck. I have been using the W-30 as my workstation for a year now and have decided to start using something which does not live on floppies. I have gone for the M1 because i love the sound of my Wavestation EX and want something with a late 80's/early 90's sound.
Anyone still using the M1?

I used to own one as well as a Wavestation SR (1992-1998) and I much preferred the latter. Polyphony was a bit limited but then I had less gear then, so it did matter. I found that the filter was so weak that you could still recognise whatever PCM sample you put through it. I miss my WS-SR but wouldn't consider buying an M1 again.
For the anecdote, I wanted an M1 so much at the time that I agreed to the following straight swap with a shop in Watford: the M1 with some broken keys and broken right-hand panel for my immaculate JX8P + PG800 + flightcase + equally immaculate DW8000 + flightcase + original manuals, Korg preset sound cassette, etc. I'll never forgive myself...

WoW! You can barely get a Portasound around here for that low a price!
Enjoy your treasure; the M1's 8-bit piano tone is a classic . . .

That's a cracking deal - I coveted the M1 from when I used to sell them in Future Music (the shop not the mag) but could never afford one. May treat myself to an M3 (the original - stupid confusing Korg model numbers) one day.
Universe! Lore! Soundtrack! Pole!
Shame bout the lack of res filters but as a breathy box it's great

used to have the m1rex, great for some classic sounds, wasn't really my cup of tea, but definitely not a bad synth
nice deal on that man, you could sell it for 5 or 6 times that!

No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

I use my EX extensively for those functions, as well as the JX-8P
I'm considering upgrading that to a SuperJX (JX10). So if any of you guys have a JX10 for sale, PM me.
I've had two gigs in two days with various projects and they both went well.
One of them is a band namned Cahuenga Blvd. which (as you may guess) plays very slick, westcoast music. For the gig I borrowed a Triton Extreme which they already had a the venue and I had some really nice piano sounds!

The fretless bass sound in the M1 is a staple sound in many of my songs. I never heard a warmer, rounder, non-compressed bass in any other ROMpler (especially Rolands). Even M1 spinoffs like X and 01 series don't have this warmth.
After I sampled that sound it into my DSS1 I no longer needed it in the studio, and let a friend borrow it who really needs the M1 for its internal sequencer to write his own songs (he doesn't like to compose with a computer). He's very happy now, and it was a good use for the board.
I don't worry too much about letting him have it, as this synth is built like a tank, practically indestructible. 8)
Nice find for that price! I hear good condition M1's can fetch upwards of $450 US.
