If you could have only ONE analog synth...

... what would it be?
One catch though, it has to be less expensive than a Jupiter-8. So, let's say, $3k max.
Me... probably an Andromeda, or MKS-80, or Jupiter-6.
You?

Is there an EMS under $3000?
Synthi A / AKS or a VCS3?
If not, then a Analogue Solutions Vostok or a Metasonix S-1000.

I've only played the Prophet 08 in the shop, but I've liked what I've heard. I like the idea of a modern analog polysynth. Haven't played the Andromeda, so I can't say if I'd like it.

If I could get an actual Minimoog (not Voyager) for less than $3K, then that would be my choice. Just like many guitarists, it can say more with one note than many can say with 100 notes!

I would take an OB-x, or a OB-Xa over a JP8.

Of the ones I have (they're the only ones I really know anything about) I would have to say the Korg Mono/Poly. I'm not that into pads anyway, plus I really like its sonic capacities...

If I could only have one, I'd go for a CS-80, as there's no chance I could buy one!

Unfortunately, there isn't one single analog synth that could make up for the absence of the rest.
If I had to replace my JX-10 with something better, I'd take an Oberheim OB8. It and the Voyager would work so well together. But then, I wouldn't want to have one without the other. That's the closest I'd get to the querry of this thread.

Jacques,
You're just not thinking big enough. Gentlemen, I give you the Telharmonium:
That will do me just fine.

What if I already own a JP8? My logic says if I keep something I already own, then cost isn't a factor. With that in mind, I say JP8.
Otherwise, I guess an Xpander would be less than $3k and versatile/intuitive enough to only keep one.
