not a synth, but i got an alesis mmt8 for free, and from a total stranger. truth be said, it needs servicing.

also i bought a jx3p with pg200 for my singer for 60 eur, but i have to thank my friend who pointed me to that deal. he is, by the way, crazy lucky with buying equipment. i remember he once went with about 100 euros to a flee market [or open market, how do you call it?] to see if there are any synths. he returned home with junost [russian analogue], a dx7, and still had enough spare money to buy ensoniq mirage which he found there, but didn't want to buy it.

oh, and the strangest thing was when i was moving from my previous house... in a pile of old shoes, clothes and other junk we were about to throw away, i found an emthree tape echo!?!?! maybe someone gave it to my father for whatever reasons. so i didn't buy it, didn't even 'get' it, i already HAD it!?

While this wasn't the deal of the century I did manage to get a Sequentcial Circuits Prophet 600 and Heavy duty case and Midi Cables for $400.00 off craigslist in K.C. I even ponied up some extra funds for the guy to meet me halfway, he lived in Waldo KS. and I met him in Overland PRK. He was a nice gent, and well I have to say Craigslist is a good way to find synths lol, just recently they had a Yamaha CS-1X for 100.00 and a Roland JX 3P for 150.00 lol I jumped on the CS-1X but missed the JX 3P lol :D So I guess if its worth lookin into you could find a good deal.

I got this crappy tape deck from cash converters for $20 in the 90's and when I got it home the bastard would not work, so the next day I took it back, and because it only had a 30 day repair/replacement warranty, they would not give me a refund, but they gave me store credit, so I looked around the store for something I could afford, then I saw her....she had only just been put on the shelf that very day, and the sales guy said "we can't get it to make any sounds" she had a new $35 price tag stuck to her, I had no money (I was quite poor at the time) so I used my $20 as a deposit, I went back the day after that with $15 (some of it small change) and someone must have told them they f**k up, one of the sales guys was telling me that they f**k up and I was getting a great deal, (the vibe I got from the guy was that he was spewing I was only handing him $15), and that is how I got my first real synth, the Roland SH-2.

LETS REMEMBER SOMETHING: if you/i/your gf's brother got a good deal, its cause they spent a lot of time looking for it. and time=money. so dont think they just show up on your door and you get lucky. bargain hunting only makes sense if you LIKE the actual bargain hunting.

sequential prelude-30
nomad 49b combo organ-40
cz1000-thrown in free when i bought my cs40m for 350
polymoog-400
pro-soloist-150
sy2-150
2Xsynthex-1600(800 a piece aint bad)

yet most of these required/requiring a good amount of work, so again, dont think its all roses in dealsville.....

the ones that got away:

wurly 200a for 30 at yard sale. missed this by minutes. sale was committed to someone else there. offered 100 for it, she wanted to honor 1st sale. (duh, should have offered 300-400).

OB8-600. oh well, whatever. ive got stuff to play, no biggie.

ARP Solina String Ensemble - $75
Wurli 200A - $100
Fender Rhodes MK I - $200

I see a lot of non-synth/keyboard posts too. I can't even get started on that...
