TB-303 examples that aren't Acid

Post by glimmertwins » Mon Jun 30, 2008 8:56 pm

...just curious if any of you know can point me to some TB-303 uses that aren't acid. It's safe to call that an instantly recognizable sound but I would like to hear some other applications of a synth that appears to be so valuable in the used market. Surely it can/has been used in other electronic(or maybe non-electronic?) applications - I'm just not as familiar with the genre to know. Enlighten me ;-)

Uses of TB-303 (non-acid) from the early 80's by such artists as -

Newcleus - Jam On It http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pWX46lJc1Y

One of my all time favorite "Club" tunes. The megamix version is the best.

This was posted on MatrixSynth the other day. About as far away from acid as you can get.

Is it possible to use DCB Buss to control the 303 from the SH-101's keyboard/front panel?

No the 303 doesn't have any CV inputs only outputs. It can be modded though.

I bet. First, I'd have to afford both the SH-101, the TB-303 AND the cost of the mods. (In that case, I'd give it a MIDI mod, instead of DCB.)

The reason I'm asking is that it could be easier to use it outside the Acid realm if triggered by something other than its own sequencer.

The Bomb Squad used a TB-303 for basslines on a few tracks.
"All we used was the explosion and the orchestra hit. The Fairlight was a $100,000 waste of space."

The "beauty" of the 303 is its sequencer. As far as its sound goes, I think the System 100 keyboard synthesizer is its closest match - same 18dB filter I have read.

Supposedly Greg Hawkes used one on his 1983 solo album Niagara Falls.

Yes, some of the basslines on 'Niagara Falls" were done with a 303.
As well, Swedish synth band Twice A Man used one in conjunction with a Pro-One for basslines.

I always thought a TB-303 was used in this track; LA Dream Team - Rockberry Jam:
