Another Moog Little Phatty/Moog Prodigy Question
Hey everybody,
I have another question about my new Moog Little Phatty. Before I had my LP I owned a Moog Prodigy. The Prodigy had a Modulation wheel and a pitch wheel just like the LP (except in opposite positions) Anyway I noticed that the pitch wheel on the LP acts more like a standard pitch wheel in that when it is used the actual pitch of the note raises or lowers a half or whole step. However on my Prodigy the pitch wheel didn't change the actual note it more or less seemed to be controlling the filter amount.
I can get a similar effect by using the modulation wheel on my LP to control the filter envelope but it's not nearly as dramatic as the sounds I could get with the wheel on my Prodigy.
Ok hopefully some of that made a little sense (I'm still trying my best to learn) What I would like to figure out is... Is there any way to use the Mod or pitch wheel on my LP to create an effect similar to the pitch wheel on a Moog Prodigy?
Thanks in advance for putting up with me and for any advice you can offer!

Try this:JordanGLV wrote:Is there any way to use the Mod or pitch wheel on my LP to create an effect similar to the pitch wheel on a Moog Prodigy?
Mod Source: Filter Env.
Mod Destination: Filter
Mod Amount: Maximum (i.e. fully clockwise)
Filter cutoff: To taste (but probably midway or less)
Filter EGR Amount: 12:00 (midway)
Filter KB Amount: Maximum
Filter Env Attack: Minimum
Filter Env Sustain: Maximum
(Filter Env Decay and Release don't seem to make much of a difference but set them to a minimum position anyway)
With some Resonance and Overload the affect is much more dramatic!!
Perhaps try these settings on the calibration preset to get a feel for it.
I hope this is what you are looking for!!

Cheers,
theglyph

I'm out of town for a wedding right now but I'm going to try those setting as soon as I get home. Hopefully it's what I'm looking for.
As far as my Prodigy goes, as far as I know it has never been modified. I did always play with the oscillator sync switched on. If for some reason my pitch wheel was a glitch or a modification it was one of the best glitches ever. I love that effect.

Re: prodigy
Your pitchwheel worked flawless then. You might however discover just a few interesting capabilities of your Prodigy if you switch sync off onceJordanGLV wrote:I did always play with the oscillator sync switched on. unfortunately I sold it (on this forum actually) to raise enough money to buy my LP I hope someday to buy another Prodigy it's such a cool little synth. I'll be sure to experiment with it a little more next time. I can't wait to get home and try the settings suggested I really hope it's what I'm looking for.
Thanks again for all the help!

With osc sync engaged, the pitchwheel on the prodigy ends up affecting timbre, not pitch.
You can get a similar result on the LP by turning oscillator sync on, assigning filter envelope as mod source and oscillator 2 as the destination. Set the amount knob to taste. Now, use the modwheel while playing the keyboard.
You may want to read the extremely helpful "Synth Secrets" series on the Sound on Sound website:

a CV pedal connected to the filter VC jack creates wide fast sweeps, also. plus you get a free hand.
