Synths with a pedigree

Post by Cam VanDerHorst » Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:18 pm

...for lack of a better term. Reading a completed eBay listing about an Oberheim DMX with a "famous '80s one-hit wonder" as the original owner got me thinking. How many of you guys have synths, drum machines, or other instruments with famous previous owners?

All my Moogs are signed by Robert! I wish he was still around. I hope to never sell these.

I did lend Gatemouth Brown my DX21 for a gig once. I should've had him sign it. It's since gone.

He only used the organ preset - it was one of those songs that he had to show off on a couple of instruments.

I have a board recording of it somewhere.

According to the nice gentleman I bought my MPC-60 from. He said he recorded Tone-Loc's 1st record with it. He reminded me of "Jerry" so he could have easly said it was Eazy-E's.

My old Roland Promars was previously owned by Alan Wilder and used in Depeche Mode in early 1982.

That would have to have been either John King or Mike Simpson - The Dust Brothers. I actually sold them an Electro Harmonix MicroSynth on eBay years ago...

I have gear formerly owned by Depeche Mode, Tangerine Dream, several film composers, several sound designers/foleys, the keyboardist for Julio Iglesias, and the personal units of several synth designers.

P.S. This topic pops up about twice per year. Looks like the last thread finally dropped off the bottom of the list.
