It's a mono synthesizer with two oscillators? Everybody knows you can't play chords on a monosynth. Not even the cheezy ones. :roll:

In the event that you can treat (trigger) osc on an individual basis, there's some moderate pseudo duphonic things that can be pulled. I've found the amount of monosynths that allow for this to be rather limited however.

Finally, the most effective means I've found....

Hi. Using a KORG Electribe EA-1 mkII . . .

. . . I have two mono parts at my fingertips. So, I set both parts to a (two-note) fifth or third chord by detuning one oscillator in relation to other. Next, set one part to play continuously as a drone and play the other part manually. The combination of parts in sequence creates major and minor (and their related 7ths), depending on what notes you press. These pads are thin, yet musically useful when chorused, flanged, phased, or delayed.

  • Set VCOs as desired and (multi)sample away, loop if needed, then assign synthesis parameters on the sampler.
  • Break chords into mono lines, sequence each line, and multi-track the monosynth.
  • Program a custom multi-voice diatonic pitch shifter on Eventide - play single notes, get out chord voicings - and have it sound musical.
  • Use a looper to overdub and build up chord voicings in real-time.
  • Careful use of delays to smear and blend sound in a textural fashion - usually precision digital - some with integral pitch-shift - into a lush ambience for pad stuff.
