This is so crazy (Jupiter 4 prices)

Post by Analogue Crazy » Mon Aug 18, 2008 4:09 pm

In the UK the Roland Jupiter-4 has suddenly doubled in price. 4 months ago they were selling for £500 to £600 and now they are selling for £1200! Thats 3 times as much as what i paid for mine. The past four Jupiter-4's on the bay have sold for just over £1200 and i can't understand why. Its a lot of money to pay for somat with just 1 oscillator polyphony and no CV gate. Does anyone understand this? Do people want a poly SH?

Its the whole Jupiter hype thing. I personaly think the whole Roland Jupiter range are massively over-rated.

Id take an Andromeda over any of them.

So do i. Im glad people see that the JP-4 is a top synth but these prices are way over-the-top. Its good but its rather limited. I have an Andromeda and it does a fantastic job. I much prefer it to the JP-8's iv used. I prefer the JP-4 to the 8 too coz im a fan of the SH series and thats what it is soundwise, a poly SH.

Isn't it just the Ebay factor? Not just Jupiters.

Only takes one person to pay over the odds for something (anything), and the next seller puts something like "one recently for £X" so I'm selling mine for the same (ridiculous) price and so it goes on and on.

exactly. it has nothing to do with overrating Jupiter series specifically. by that logic, whole vintage arsenal is massively overrated n overpriced. yet, there less n less of them available in top condition, and the demand is huge. thats why JP6 is always cheaper, Roland has made tons of those, yet only a cpl of thousand of JP-8/JP-4.

personally i like Jupiter 4 a lot, but id pay 700 eur or so, tops. as for Andromeda, which is one of my fav synths bar none, it absolutely cannot touch what Jupiter 8 excells at. and vice versa. imo good condition Jupiter 8 is worth at least as much as A6, but as we have witnessed prices went to abnormal recently ($4.5K+), just as with Prophets, minimoogs, Xpanders, CS series etc..

im just sad i didnt get to pickup a jp4 and another jp8 bfr this craziness.

Man, £1200 is insane. I really hope these are just bad cases of shill bidding.

Whenever a synth goes for a stupid price, look at the buyer. That buyer has no eBay experience. DING! There is your answer.
Also, let's remember that value is an average... it is not set by the highest price anyone has ever paid.

The Jupiter 4 shouldn't be part of any "Jupiter Craze." I don't need to tell some of you that it's dissimilar to the 6 or 8, and doesn't sound like them. I always wanted a Jupiter 4 because of the interface and a more vintage sound, but those things shouldn't make the 4 approach the 6 or 8 in value.

Its all just money.

People are exploiting the 'Vintage' thing and have been for a while now.

A lot of them are people who have no musical interest at all, and have acquired the synth cheaply and then sell it on for major profit.

A met a guy recently who sold a 606 and then afterwards revealed he got it for £10, this was after selling it for £225.
Come on Bennett.... Let's Party!

i personally find both the buyer and the seller annoying in this case.

more the seller, but the buyer... come on, do some research, have some balls, anything...

Get Something Else
, jeez...

guess i'm a socialist at heart

Remember these rules: 1. You don't have to buy. 2. You don't have to sell.

I HATE selling a synth I'm fond of. And I hate myself for buying more and more, so from now on I'll only be updating my modular.
