The MD or UW version can be much more than a drum machine, for that fact synth sounds can be made as well like Bass, i've even managed to make a TB-303 like low bass as well warbling sound effects and other noises. It really shines with the added sampler, it's impossible to keep your hands off these machines, as i'm sure any Elektron owner will vouch for that.

I'll try and put some samples up from my MD-UW soon.

I'm 95% sure it wasn't on Give Up. May have been used on Be Still My Heart and the Mushaboom remix but that's about it.

Oh ok that's interesting, those percussion sounds sound a lot like the demos of the machinedrum stuff on the net
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

His little studio seems pretty action packed, a bunch of percussion synths in there
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

Here is what was used on Give Up (and everything up until):

Cubase 5.0
Motu 828
Mackie 1604
kurzweil K2000
nord modular G1
line6 delay

definitely surprisingly minimal.
so the drums were just cubase? or maybe the K2000? (weird...)

Maybe once a month or so I get into a Machinedrum fever and I read up all about it, check out pictures, demos, videos, mp3s.. the works... and then cry over not having the cash to order one. Some time goes by and I simmer down, but eventually I relapse... and I think this thread just triggered another.

It's hard to justify spending 1200-1500$ on a musical instrument, especially considering i'm a university student.. I just dropped over a grand on some new recording gear, including a new condenser and recording interface.. I figure i've done pretty well for myself, especially since I scored a Nord Lead 2 last year.

One of these days.. it'll be mine.

once upon a time someone kind of tore me on here because of asking if anything out there doubled midi BPM so that one drum machine could be chained to another and provide faster fills...that's another awesome thing about the machinedrum AND the monomachine. aside from individual step retrig on the MD (which is awesome), master or slave, either can be switched to run double speed. having that's another reason to go for a mkII on the MD for twice as many steps.

just to make sure that makes sense...you can have some other piece of gear running a 16 step loop and the elektrons will cram 32 steps into the same time.

intricacy w/o sacrificing BPM.
can go psycho & crank one of 'em to 300 @ double speed!

Not to mention it swings differently when you do this...

Interesting. This is only on the mkII though?

MnM mkI has it, so i'm guessing MD mkI does too. just only has 32 steps instead of 64.
