Floyd founder Wright dies at 65

Post by THM » Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:59 pm

Just got this from BBC homepage:

Floyd founder Wright dies at 65

Wright wrote songs on albums including Dark Side Of The Moon
Pink Floyd keyboard player and founder member Richard Wright has died at the age of 65 after battling cancer, his spokesman has said.

The group released their first record in 1967 with Wright appearing alongside lead guitarist Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and Nick Mason.

Dave Gilmour joined the band at the start of 1968 while Barrett left the group shortly afterwards.

Wright penned songs on albums including Dark Side Of The Moon. "

R.I.P. Rick.
All my thought to his family & friends.

I've always been a big admirer of Richard Wright as keyboardist of my all-time favourite band Pink Floyd.
I feel really sad hearing this news... :(

Wow. I am stunned. Wright was one of the musicians that inspired me to take up synths. RIP.

I had just read this somewhere else on the web, but I should have known that it would have been posted here first. "Dark Side of the Moon" will always be a classic, but the synths on "Wish You Were Here" is what always had inspired me, as well as his Hammond and electric piano playing on "Animals". I had always kicked myself for not seeing them, as I was always holding out for a reunion tour with Roger Waters.

I will listen to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond"(all the parts), "Welcome to the Machine", and end my memorial with the "Great Gig in the Sky". Actually I think that I will just scroll through my iPod to my Pink Floyd Collection and let it play random tracks.

Richard Wright,
May You Rest in Peace

May I humbly suggest that this should be a sticky for a few days?
