Synthesizer : Pro User / VSE'r Association

Not sure if this has been done here before (I haven't seen it in the 1.5 years of my browsing and participation). Kind of a Rorschach for synths, just name the first user (professional or VSE'r) that comes to mind for each synth. I thought it would be fair to include a runner up as well.

Here's my list:

I was treating it like a Rorschach or word association test and no one popped out immediately for those synths. I honestly couldn't tell you any pros that use the Wavestation without looking at the VSE listing. For the 303, the only name that really pops into my head would be Aphex since I don't really know artists' names for acid house. For the MemMoog, the only name that pops in my head would be Larry Fast in a photo playing live (with Peter Gabriel, I think) that someone posted here about a year ago.

Y'all are welcome to expand to my list. It was kind of the idea for everone to have their own list of synth : user associations.

A few that popped into my mind:
OB-Xa: Wayne Famous of The Producers (he used to strap one around his neck)
ARP Pro-Soloist: Tony Banks (got 10x more mileage out of it then everyone else who ever played one put together)
VCS3: Rick Wright (I still recall seeing an old, pre-MTV music video of him playing "Any Colour You Like" on it)
Synergy: Wendy Carlos
Memormoog: Saga (Jim Gilmour / Jim Crichton)
Synthi-A: Brian Eno
Taurus: Mike Rutherford, Chester Thompson (who did the bass part to Phil Collins' "I Don't Care Anymore" playing a Taurus with his fists)
Polymoog: Larry Fast (it was all over the Synergy "Cords" album)
JD-800: Paul Schaffer (it was that sustained opening note in the theme of the original Letterman show)
Korg 770: The original lineup of Human League, Heaven 17 (they got an awful lot of mileage out of that simple little monosynth)
ARP Omni: Joy Division ("Love Will Tear Us Apart" is the single most outstanding use ever of that synth)
2600: Joe Zawinul, Kerry Livgren
Prophet-5: Rupert Greenall (The Fixx -- very underrated player)
Juno-106: Ian Stanley (Tears for Fears -- remember the "Head Over Heels" video where one flies into his hands?)
CS-80: Vangelis, Eddie Jobson
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!

I thought he did a series of videos on the MS-20.

Sure did. Right before he kicked it out of his house and threw it's cables and stand out the window and told it "I don't love you."

That was a Jupiter-8, although I don't know whether it was used for the actual line in the recording.

The Korg MS-20 vs. The Yamaha CS-15 by AG
I remember that thread, read the first few posts before the mud slinging. To me it read more to praise the CS-15 rather than bash the MS-20. I love my CS-15 and would still like to get a MS-20 to add to my collection, I'm just not going to pay more than $1200 at this time.

Like I said before, my list is like a word association test. Just put down the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a synth. Besides Ozric, I really don't know of any pro players that use the mS-20 without reading the MS-20 page on VSE. AutoG was the first VSE'r that popped in my head regarding the MS-20 mostly from his vidoe series but I guess subconsciously for the CS-15 vs. MS-20 thread.

Let's see some more lists. Who's the 1st person you think of when you hear a synth's name?

Can't think of anything for too many of those synths, but how about just one?

Prophet VS - Douglas Adams!
