I reckon it's more likely to be a small, single-track circular sequencer with both midi and CV/Gate outputs. Probably called the Orc or something similar to that.

No doubt these 2 will make a great combo.

If someone had asked what do you think a Revolution without the synth should cost, I think most people would say about half as much as the full Revo. At $399 this thing would be great, at $550 you might as well just buy a Revo.
I see what you are saying...but what else is there in this price range that is offered new these days?
Exactly...this thing looks pretty great for what it is...this + XS, or Little Phatty seems pretty dangerous actually...though, that starts to get into Spectralis/MnM price point...

man, hopefully this will serve to bring the prices of Mobiuses down to at least a similar price point, they're a little out of control:

Some of those pieces are ridiculous.

I don't necessarily think the Orb is expensive as much as I was just hoping for a multitimbral sequencer from FR. That was a hope, but I like this Orb. I just don't see how it's a better deal than the Revo.

If it were the same price as the Revo, but with more sequencing options or multitimbral I think it would be a no brainer and a winner for sure.

That's because it's not :)

Seriously, the Mobius had more features & it was cheaper......... what the h**l????? Not only that, it's not like there a lot of additional development went into the sequencer code (if any) - most of the 'development' costs should have been taken care of already, I mean it's probably the same sequencing software that was in the 777, Mobius, and Revolution - so, why isn't the price of this thing the same, or less than, the price of the mobius???

sigh.

I'm not saying it's useless garbage, and as someone else pointed out, it would be fun to have a bunch of those sequencing all kinds of different synths - but at that price, no way. I think this device would certainly pull in more profits if the price were dropped by $200 - 'everyone' on this thread would probably buy at least one, and many people would probably buy multiples. h**l, if I owned an XS (which I've been considering lately), I'd buy at least 2 Orb's if they were $350 - one for the oscillators and one for the filter. AND, since there will most definitely be additional XS-ories I'm assuming whatever else that is going to be released will probably benefit from an Orb as well, that would be 3 for me - but not at $550 each. No way. At $350 you open the doors to people who want to use it with other synths other than the XS, at $550 I think he's basically limiting it to people who own XS's who want a sequencer to match the aesthetic of the XS.......

I agree that there is no way I would dish out $550 on a sequencer that provides less capabilities than the mobius. I agree with Nada that I would have thrown well over a grand at an FR drum machine in a second. I am just kind of disapointed. Hardware sequencers are fun and all, but if you don't need cv, then there are a zillion options for a lot less. Hopefully the next gadget is better.
