If you go there and listen to the demos, they make the Opus sound downright creepy, which I love. Can it really do all those crazy FX sounds?
Is the Moog Opus 3 really capable of making these sounds?

The Rogue and the Liberation suffer from it as well.

Buy pre-serviced or expect to replace some switches and sliders...

I personally think you will be disappointed with the opus 3 if those are the sounds you are looking for.

Oh no, those are not the only ones. I really like the strings as well. Kind of thin in my opinion, but sinister. I like that. The crazy FX sounds would be a bonus.hfinn wrote:I personally think you will be disappointed with the opus 3 if those are the sounds you are looking for.

I bought Gforce Virtual String Machine because I wanted to get some of the ARP Omni sounds and it also has an Opus 3 set. It isn't going to benefit you for doing weird sounds but it definitely recreates the strings. They did a good job sampling because the OB-8 strings section sounds identical to my own OB-8 with the exception of it sounding a little more "perfect".
But a cheap-a*s way to get some vintage string machines in your hands,

I like vintage synths....

I wouldn't need the Opus 3 to make those effects, but I do plan on someday owning one. Economical and more manageable (I hope) than a Vox Continental or Farfisa Combo Compac. It was designed by one of my heros, Herbert A. Deutsch, who originally titled it the Strings Organ Brass (S O B). If only those Norlin freaks had listened to him. . . .
The greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive.
