give me 6 voices, software generated modulation, the same multimode filters from the voyager, and a good amount of modulation (cross mod, fm of pwm, filter fm)

and i'll be happy with a moog poly

oh and 49-61 keys, no more and no less

CJ the noisemaker wrote:What Moog Music should make is a polyphonic synthesizer, 6-8 voices. However, as with normal polysynths have two oscillators, one filter, one amp, and two EG's per voice, Moog makes a Voyager with 3 SSM oscillators, one low-pass filter, one amp, and 2 SSM EG's per voice. Where it gets complex and expensive is around the Modulation busses. Instead of having one set per voice, it will have one set per synth. So at the same time, it can still be modular capable But every voice would have to sound alike, Thus individual timbre per voice is no longer available.

That may lower the price on the synth, and instead of using an all-wood frame, they can build it out of aluminum with some mahogany ends.
Can't think why you'd think that would be much cheaper. The important stuff is in the signal path, that's where the cost will be. Yes you'll save some by using software modulation, but how much experience do Moog have in that area? Remember Moog is a very small company. BTW SSM oscillators? I don't think so, unless SSM in this case refers to a circuit type?

Still think the cheapest way would be a rack mount LP, perhaps sans knobs, MIDI controllable only.

Anyway back to the Important stuff ...

Truth is neither sound all that vintage but a 5-6 voice little phatty would. Even 4 little phatties would be one killer sounding 4 voice synth and if you bought them all used it wouldn't be too insane. Cheaper than a SEM 4 voice?

So I guess no one really has polied them up...? even 2?
Why don't you just multi-track your LP?

I have two Little Phatties and I've chained them once or twice. It sounds okay but two voices are not really enough to have much fun with it. I might buy a third one if Moog comes with a rackmounted version but until than I'll settle with analog sequences and leads simultaneously (and the double Filter Overdrive of course).

I posted this on the Moog forum. Don't have a Phatty, but have a Voyager and two RME's. I would say that any more than 4 voices on the 3 1/2 octave keyboard of the Voyager would be overkill. The Moog system does not cycle through the voices, but only plays as many voices as keys held down. So every first key is voice one, second key voice 2 and so on.
Here is a teaser video I did with my camera, 15 sec and onboard mic. This one has a small two octave MIDI keyboard triggering the Moog 1P bass and the Voyager with two RME's for three vioces, for a total of 4 Moog voices.
Polyphonic Voyager with Moog 1P bass AVI 2.6 MEGS
This is right up there with something like the Oberheim 4 voice. Big difference is every change on the front panel changes all the Voyagers, and there is quite a bit of patch memory.
I have to get off my a*s and do a proper video with the poly-Voyager.

I've bought two used LP Stage I's in the past year, one last year for $775 postpaid (though it had a wonky VCO2) and one last month for $800 postpaid (this one works like a charm).

Yeah, $800 is not uncommon for a used one, especially if it is an original Stage model. People always want the latest version. I can do without USB though.
