Please help Micke. What synthesizer was used to create that awesome solo? I can find nothing on the internet.
Thanks

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
I think I figured it out watching a live version of this song from 1977 on YouTube. Minimoog, of course!!
Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
I've read somewhere that Howard Leese double-tracked the Minimoog for the solo on "Magic Man".

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
It very well could have been a Minimoog, as Heart now uses a Voyager for the solo.

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
I seem to remember reading that it was actually a Moog Series 15 that was at the studio (that's a small vintage Moog Modular).
synthesizers.com modular • Sequential Prophet-5 • Roland Jupiter-4 • Korg Delta • Oberheim SEM • Ensoniq SQ-80 • Korg MS-20 • Moog Minimoog • Yamaha CS-15 • Cordovox/Moog "White Elephant"

I saw the original Heart band (mid 70's) twice and they had two Minimoogs on stage for those leads both shows (
I just aged myself
). I'm sure they used the same in the studio. Funny though, the lead was played by some girl not listed as a band member. I saw a Soundstage show of Heart about four months ago and they had some girl playing the leads also. Not sure if it was the same girl though. My memory isn't that good.

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
Many years ago Howard told me that he had originally done the solo on the MiniD but once in the studio the miniD was double tracked "added with another Moog that was there" - celebutante is likely dead on with the series 15.Micke wrote:I've read somewhere that Howard Leese double-tracked the Minimoog for the solo on "Magic Man".

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
It's funny, but a few months ago I saw what must have been a very old video of Heart on public TV. It appeared to be some kind of concert shot in a small TV studio. They played "Magic Man" in that set, and Howard played a different version of the solo (on a Mini). And after hearing it, I liked it a lot better than the version that is on the album.

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
It comes after all the guitar stuff during the solo. You have to listen to the full length version. Edited versions often have the synth solo cut out.

Two VCO: thanks to the push rods, one can choose several forms of waves at the same time!

Re: Heart - Magic Man synthesizer solo
That looks like the tape I saw. Howard actually gets to show some chops on the Mini in this version. He was a better keyboard player than he got credit for.
