I'm Not The One - synthesizer solo

Post by Leeroy Jenkins » Sun Dec 28, 2008 11:49 pm

Quick question. The bugle horn synthesizer solo in "I'm Not the One" from The Cars, do you think it's cool or pure 80s cheese? Also, any guesses as to what synth made that sound? I'm thinking it's just a single oscillator solo from Greg Hawkes' Prophet 5.

I like it. It was tastefully done.

I've always liked it so much that I wish it was longer.

Yes.

[Which is to say that it's cool 80s cheese.]

Great sound. I do happen to be a fan of those types of leads, though.
Well fffff.

Listening to the song right now on YouTube, not too familiar with The Cars.

The synth sounds like....either a Prophet-5...but almost like a Pro-Soloist lead...could be some ARP, but the sound is pretty clean and not so ARP-brassy...interesting sound. Pretty good tune.

I think it's either the Prophet 5 or Mini-korg 700 (a long time favorite of Greg's), although Greg was also using a Jupiter 4 at the time.
